Orduspor 2-0 Belediye Vanspor: Hosts book Turkish Cup progress with controlled home display

Orduspor secured a place in the next round of the TUR Kupası with a composed 2-0 victory over Belediye Vanspor at the 19 Eylül Stadyumu on Tuesday evening. The home side managed the cup tie intelligently, scoring once in each half and limiting their visitors to a handful of clear chances in front of a lively Ordu crowd.

It was not a frantic cup night but a mature one. Orduspor set the tempo early, kept their shape through the middle and made the decisive moments count. Belediye Vanspor competed well in spells, especially before the interval, but the away side lacked the final pass and were punished for two lapses in concentration.

Match overview

Orduspor began in a 4-2-3-1 shape, using the width of the pitch to stretch Belediye Vanspor’s back four. The hosts pressed with discipline rather than abandon, forcing Vanspor into long clearances and second-ball duels. The visitors, set up in a compact 4-4-2, tried to spring quick counterattacks down the channels, but Orduspor’s centre-backs read the danger well.

The opening goal arrived midway through the first half and gave the tie the direction it needed. After a patient build-up on the right, the ball was worked into the penalty area and finished calmly from close range. Orduspor could have doubled the lead before the break, but Belediye Vanspor’s goalkeeper made two important stops to keep the scoreline within reach.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Belediye Vanspor’s first warning came on the counter, but a low shot from the edge of the box was held by the Orduspor goalkeeper.
• 34th minute: Orduspor broke the deadlock after a neat move down the right. Berkay Aydın found space inside the area and slotted the ball beyond the goalkeeper.
• 45+2: Vanspor almost responded before half-time, but a header from a corner drifted narrowly wide.
• 71st minute: Orduspor sealed the tie when Mertcan Yılmaz latched onto a loose ball 12 yards out and fired into the bottom corner.
• 84th minute: Belediye Vanspor’s best chance of the night came from a free-kick, but the wall did its job and the follow-up was blocked.

Tactical story

The game was decided by Orduspor’s control of the middle third. Their double pivot screened the back four effectively, allowing the full-backs to push forward without leaving the hosts exposed. When Vanspor won possession, they often found themselves isolated up front, with the support arriving too slowly.

Belediye Vanspor improved after the break and pushed more bodies forward, but that also opened space for Orduspor’s counterattacks. The second goal came in exactly that phase of the match: Vanspor committed numbers to an attack, Orduspor won the ball back and moved it forward with purpose. From there, the hosts managed the closing stages with the assurance of a team that knew the next round was within reach.

Standout performers

Berkay Aydın was central to Orduspor’s best attacking work, combining well with the midfield and taking his goal with composure. Mertcan Yılmaz provided the killer second goal and worked tirelessly across the front line. At the back, Orduspor’s goalkeeper and centre-back pairing deserve credit for a clean sheet that never looked seriously threatened after the second goal.

For Belediye Vanspor, the goalkeeper kept the visitors in the tie during the first half, while the midfield worked hard to disrupt Orduspor’s rhythm. The away side will rue their missed set-piece opportunities and the two defensive gaps that ultimately decided the contest.

What the result means

For Orduspor, the 2-0 win means cup progress, a clean sheet and another dose of confidence in a competition where knockout football can quickly build momentum. The club can now look ahead to the next round draw knowing that its home form and defensive structure are holding up well.

Belediye Vanspor exit the TUR Kupası with a performance that had encouraging spells but not enough cutting edge. Their focus will shift back to league commitments, where turning territory and possession into goals will be the priority.
