Gaziantep Futbol Kulübü delivered a ruthless away performance to beat Etimesgut Belediye Spor 4-0 in the Turkish Cup on Tuesday evening, turning a potentially awkward trip to Ankara into a comfortable progression.

Etimesgut Belediye Spor, the lower-division hosts, began with energy and a compact shape, but Gaziantep’s superior quality in the final third told across the 90 minutes. Four unanswered goals — including a decisive burst either side of half-time — sent the visitors through and left the home side with little more than pride from a demanding cup tie.

Match overview

Played under the lights at Etimesgut’s home ground, the cup fixture pitted lower-league resilience against professional pedigree. Gaziantep Futbol Kulübü controlled possession from the early stages, circulating the ball with patience before accelerating through the lines. Etimesgut Belediye Spor defended in numbers and initially limited clear sights of goal, but the visitors’ movement and pressing gradually pulled the home back line apart.

The scoreline reflected the difference in conversion rather than a complete mismatch in effort. Etimesgut worked tirelessly without the ball and had brief moments of relief on the counter, yet Gaziantep’s sharper decision-making in the box proved decisive. By the final whistle, the visitors had managed the game professionally and secured their place in the next round.

Key moments

• 14th minute: Gaziantep took the lead after a sustained spell of possession, working the ball into the penalty area before a composed finish broke Etimesgut’s early resistance.
• 41st minute: The visitors doubled their advantage from a set piece, with a header from a corner beating the home goalkeeper and giving Gaziantep a cushion before the break.
• 63rd minute: A quick transition after an Etimesgut attack broke down allowed Gaziantep to surge forward, and a low finish made it 3-0.
• 86th minute: A late fourth goal capped the scoring, with a substitute applying the finishing touch after more pressure around the penalty area.

Tactical story

Gaziantep’s approach was built on control and width. The visitors stretched Etimesgut with passes into the wide channels, then used runners from midfield to attack the spaces created by the home side’s narrow defensive block. Their pressing also forced turnovers in promising areas, particularly in the second half as Etimesgut’s legs began to tire.

Etimesgut Belediye Spor set up to stay compact and deny central access, and for long spells that plan forced Gaziantep to work patiently. The hosts looked to spring forward on the break, but the final pass too often went astray under pressure. Once Gaziantep added the second goal before half-time, the home side had to open up, and that only increased the space available to the visitors after the interval.

Standout performers

Gaziantep’s midfield dictated the rhythm of the match, winning second balls and linking defence with attack. The wide players were a constant outlet, while the central defenders dealt comfortably with Etimesgut’s limited spells of possession. The substitute who scored the fourth goal made an immediate impact and underlined the depth available to the visitors.

For Etimesgut, the goalkeeper produced several saves to prevent the margin from growing earlier, and the captain led by example at the back. The hosts’ midfield worked hard to screen the defence, but the physical and technical demands of facing a professional side eventually took their toll.

What the result means

Gaziantep Futbol Kulübü move into the next round with momentum and a clean sheet, a combination that will please the coaching staff. The cup offers a chance to build confidence and give squad players meaningful minutes, and this performance suggested the team is taking the competition seriously.

For Etimesgut Belediye Spor, the exit is disappointing but understandable. The club can now turn its attention back to league commitments, where consistency will matter more than a one-off cup night against stronger opposition. The home supporters saw effort and organisation; the difference was simply the ruthlessness of the visitors in the key moments.
