The visitors defended in numbers and managed to frustrate Monastir for long spells, with their goalkeeper making several timely interventions. Despite Monastir’s territorial advantage, the first half ended without a goal.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 63rd minute when Nizar Chaabane rose highest to meet a corner from the right and powered a header into the net. Monastir continued to push for a second goal to kill the game off, but Progres held firm and nearly grabbed an equalizer on the counter-attack in the closing minutes.

Tactical story

Monastir’s patient build-up and willingness to use the wide areas created consistent pressure, but Progres’s deep defensive block made it difficult to find clear openings. The home side’s decision to increase the tempo after halftime and deliver more crosses into the box eventually paid off with the set-piece goal.

Progres Sakiet Eddaier showed resilience and nearly punished Monastir for failing to score a second goal. Their compact shape and willingness to counter kept the match competitive until the final whistle, but they lacked the final quality needed to take a point.

The three points keep US Monastir in a strong position in the Tunisian Professional League 1 standings and underline their ability to grind out results even when not at their most fluent. For Progres Sakiet Eddaier, the narrow loss is a reminder of the fine margins in the division, but their defensive organization offers encouragement for future fixtures.
