E. M. Mahdia claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory over Club Polideportivo El Ejido in the Tunisian Professional League 2 on 26 October 2026, winning a five-goal contest that swung back and forth before the home side found the decisive late breakthrough.

Played under the lights, the match delivered exactly the kind of intensity expected from a league fixture with important standings points at stake. Mahdia’s ability to respond after losing control of the game proved crucial, while El Ejido left frustrated after pushing the contest to the brink of a draw.

Match overview

E. M. Mahdia started with purpose, pressing high and looking to force mistakes in the visitors’ build-up. The home side’s aggressive approach created early momentum, and their attacking players drifted into dangerous pockets between El Ejido’s midfield and defence.

Club Polideportivo El Ejido gradually grew into the game, using longer spells of possession to calm the tempo. The visitors’ wide players stretched Mahdia’s back line, and the match became an entertaining exchange of styles: Mahdia’s direct pressure against El Ejido’s more measured passing game.

How the five goals unfolded

• Home breakthrough: E. M. Mahdia opened the scoring after sustained pressure, capitalising on a loose ball in the attacking third.
• El Ejido response: The visitors equalised with a well-worked move, pulling defenders out of position before finishing calmly.
• Mahdia regain the lead: The home side restored their advantage before the interval, reacting quickly to a second-ball situation.
• Late drama: El Ejido levelled again in the second half, setting up a tense finish.
• Decisive moment: Mahdia found the winning goal late on, converting a chance created by their persistence in the final third.

Tactical story

Mahdia’s success came from their willingness to press in coordinated bursts. Rather than sitting back after taking the lead, they continued to hunt for turnovers in midfield, which kept El Ejido from establishing long uninterrupted spells of possession.

El Ejido’s best moments arrived when they switched play quickly and attacked the space behind Mahdia’s advanced full-backs. Their two goals were evidence of that threat, but the visitors were ultimately undone by their inability to manage the final stages. Mahdia’s substitutes added energy, and the home side’s bench played a role in pushing the team toward the winner.

Standout performers

The Mahdia midfield set the tone with aggressive pressing and quick forward passes, while the home attack showed persistence throughout the five-goal thriller. In defence, Mahdia’s centre-backs had to cope with sustained pressure late in the second half and made several important interventions.

For Club Polideportivo El Ejido, the wide players were a constant outlet and the equalising goal came from their most cohesive attacking sequence. The visitors’ goalkeeper also made important saves to keep the score level at key moments, even though the team ultimately conceded three times.

Season impact

The 3-2 win gives E. M. Mahdia three valuable points in the Tunisian Professional League 2 standings and strengthens their position in what is shaping up to be a competitive campaign. For El Ejido, the narrow defeat is a setback, but the performance showed enough attacking quality to suggest they can recover quickly.

Mahdia will take confidence from winning a match in which they had to endure pressure and respond to setbacks. El Ejido, meanwhile, will focus on game management and the small details that separated the sides in a contest decided by one late goal.
