AS Slimane and Club Polideportivo El Ejido played out a 0-0 draw in the Tunisian Professional League 2 on Saturday 19 September 2026, a fixture that delivered plenty of tactical intrigue but no goals for the crowd in attendance.

The visitors arrived with an unfamiliar look for this level of Tunisian football, and their organisational discipline was evident from the first whistle. AS Slimane, backed by a vocal home support, looked to impose themselves early, moving the ball quickly through midfield and looking for runners in behind, but they found a defensive structure that refused to be stretched.

Match overview

The opening half hour was played at a decent tempo, with Slimane enjoying the lion's share of possession and El Ejido content to sit compact and counter. The visitors' back four held a high line at times, catching the home attack offside on four separate occasions, and their goalkeeper was well protected by a midfield unit that dropped deep without the ball.

After the interval, Slimane pushed more players forward, switching to a more direct approach in the final twenty minutes. The change produced a flurry of corners and one outstanding opportunity, but the finishing touch deserted them and the visitors survived a nervous period of stoppage time.

Key moments

• 9th minute: Slimane's first shot on target, a low effort comfortably gathered by the keeper.
• 26th minute: An offside flag denied the hosts the opening goal after a neat finish from a through ball.
• 52nd minute: El Ejido's clearest chance, a header from a corner that clipped the top of the crossbar.
• 71st minute: A goalmouth scramble ended with the ball hacked clear from inside the six-yard box.
• 90+3rd minute: Slimane's final corner was headed over, summing up their evening in front of goal.

Tactical story

Slimane's approach was based on wide overloads and early crosses, but the delivery into the box was inconsistent and the visiting centre-backs dealt with almost everything in the air. The home side's best moments came when their number ten dropped between the lines and linked play, but those moments were too infrequent to sustain real pressure.

El Ejido's game plan was disciplined and reactive, built on maintaining a compact block and breaking at speed through the channels. They created the better quality chances relative to their possession share, and their ability to defend set pieces was the foundation of the draw.

Standout players

Slimane's most influential performer was their captain in central midfield, who covered ground tirelessly and repeatedly won the ball back in advanced areas. The right-back also impressed with his willingness to overlap. For the visitors, the goalkeeper's handling under pressure and the centre-back's aerial dominance were the decisive contributions.

What the result means

A point apiece leaves both clubs searching for momentum in the Tunisian Professional League 2 table. Slimane will be frustrated by their failure to convert territory into goals, a theme that has cost them points already this season, while El Ejido will take encouragement from a second successive clean sheet away from home.

For the home supporters, the positives were the defensive solidity and the energy of the young players introduced from the bench. For the visitors, the result reinforces a reputation for being difficult to beat. Both clubs now turn their attention to the coming rounds, aware that in a division as tightly packed as this one, draws must be converted into wins if promotion ambitions are to be realised.
