Tactical story

Samut Songkhram City’s game plan revolved around getting the ball wide and attacking the spaces behind Thap Luang’s full-backs. The home side’s wingers were direct and continually forced the visitors to defend deep, while the overlapping runs from full-back created overloads on both flanks. Wongchai benefited from that service and was a constant threat in the penalty area.

Thap Luang United’s midfield struggled to close the gaps between the lines in the first half, allowing Samut Songkhram City to play through them with ease. The visitors were more compact after the interval and their set-piece goal gave them a route back into the contest. However, they were caught pushing forward for an equaliser in the 76th minute, and Chan’s finish punished them on the counter. Samut Songkhram City’s management of the game in the final 15 minutes was professional and ensured there would be no late drama.

Standout performers

Wongchai was the clear standout, scoring twice and leading the attack with purpose. Chan made an immediate impact from the bench, while the home side’s midfield duo controlled the rhythm of the match for long periods. For Thap Luang United, Srisuwan’s goal was a bright moment on an otherwise difficult afternoon, and their goalkeeper made several saves to prevent the margin from being larger.

What the result means

The three points move Samut Songkhram City into a more promising position in the Thai League 3 table and underline their strength at home. Thap Luang United remain in a challenging phase and must improve their defensive shape if they are to climb the standings. For Samut Songkhram City, the win provides momentum and confidence ahead of a demanding run of fixtures, while Thap Luang will need a quick response in their next outing.
