Mahasarakham SBT FC and Muangthong United played out a tense 0-0 draw in Thai League 2 at the Mahasarakham Provincial Stadium on 18 October 2026, a result that frustrates the visitors more than the hosts.

Match overview

Muangthong United controlled the ball for long spells and created the clearer chances, but they ran into a disciplined Mahasarakham SBT FC side that defended deep and limited space in the final third. The visitors' best opportunity of the first half came from a free-kick, but the Mahasarakham goalkeeper produced a strong save to keep the score level.

After the break, Muangthong increased the tempo and pushed more players forward, yet the final pass repeatedly eluded them. Mahasarakham grew in confidence as the game wore on and nearly stole all three points on the counter-attack, but their finishing let them down in the final moments.

Key moments

• 12' — Early save: The Mahasarakham goalkeeper tips a dipping free-kick over the bar.
• 34' — Hosts counter: A quick break ends with a low shot flashing just wide of the far post.
• 58' — Muangthong hit the post: A header from a corner beats the goalkeeper but not the woodwork.
• 76' — Goal disallowed: Muangthong find the net from a rebound, but the assistant's flag rules it out for offside.
• 90+3' — Last-ditch stop: The Mahasarakham goalkeeper smothers a close-range effort to secure the point.

Tactical story

Muangthong United's 4-3-3 built patiently through midfield, but Mahasarakham's low block forced them into wide areas where crosses were comfortably defended. The hosts were happy to concede possession and look for transitions, and their compact midfield made it difficult for Muangthong to find pockets between the lines. The visitors lacked a decisive final ball, and their set-piece threat was largely neutralised after the opening hour.

Standout performers

Mahasarakham's goalkeeper was the hero of the night, making three important saves and commanding his box well. Their central defenders also deserve praise for their concentration under pressure. For Muangthong, Kakana Khamyok was the most creative outlet, but he was often isolated as the hosts doubled up on him in wide areas.

Season impact

Muangthong United drop two points in the promotion race, and their inability to break down a determined opponent will be a concern for the coaching staff. Mahasarakham SBT FC, by contrast, will view the draw as a valuable point against one of the division's strongest squads and a sign of their growing resilience at home.
