Chiangrai Thawee and Chiangmai FC played out a 1-1 draw in their Thai League 3 northern derby on Saturday, 19 September 2026, with both goals arriving in a tense, hard-fought second half. The 16:30 kick-off delivered exactly what the fixture promised: local pride, physical midfield battles and a finish that kept the outcome uncertain until the final whistle.

Match Overview

The two northern clubs have developed a competitive rivalry in recent seasons, and the opening exchanges reflected that familiarity. Chiangrai Thawee, playing in front of their home support, pressed aggressively high up the pitch, while Chiangmai FC looked to absorb that pressure and strike on the break with quick, vertical passes into the channels.

Chances were limited in a cagey first half. The visitors saw more of the ball but struggled to convert possession into shots on target, and the home goalkeeper was largely untroubled before the interval. Chiangrai Thawee's threat came mainly from set pieces, with their tall centre-backs repeatedly attacking deliveries from wide areas.

Key Moments

• 34' — Chiangrai Thawee take the lead. Natthaphon Srisuwan reacts first to a loose ball inside the penalty area and drills a low shot into the bottom corner.
• 52' — Chiangmai FC's best chance of the opening hour is cleared off the line after a goalmouth scramble.
• 66' — Chiangrai Thawee almost double their advantage, but a header from a corner clips the top of the crossbar.
• 78' — The equaliser arrives. Substitute Teerapat Wongsa meets a whipped cross with a firm header to make it 1-1.
• 88' — Both sides push for a winner, but two smart saves keep the score level.

Tactical Story

Chiangmai FC's manager adjusted at half-time, pushing an extra body into midfield and instructing his full-backs to advance higher. That shift gradually turned territory into pressure, and the equalising goal came directly from the increased volume of crosses into the box. The substitution that produced the goal was decisive: fresh legs against a tiring defence is often the difference in the closing stages of Thai League 3 fixtures.

Chiangrai Thawee, for their part, will feel they should have killed the game off during their best spell between the 60th and 70th minutes. Their defensive organisation was excellent for long periods, but the inability to hold the ball higher up the pitch invited the late pressure that cost them two points.

Standout Players

Natthaphon Srisuwan was lively throughout for the home side, and his goal was reward for a tireless display leading the line. In defence, the experienced centre-back pairing dealt with everything thrown at them aerially. For Chiangmai FC, Teerapat Wongsa changed the game after coming off the bench, while their central midfielder dictated the tempo in the second half with a composed passing display.

Table and Season Impact

A draw is a result that keeps both clubs moving in the right direction without giving either a decisive edge in the northern section of Thai League 3. Chiangrai Thawee remain difficult to beat at home, while Chiangmai FC showed the resilience and squad depth needed for a promotion push. With the reverse fixture still to come, this rivalry looks set to have a significant say in how the regional table takes shape.
