FC Yala and Surat Thani City played out a goalless 0-0 draw in the Thai League Cup on September 13, 2026, a tense cup tie that was ultimately decided by a penalty shootout.

With a place in the next round at stake, both teams approached the match with caution. The 0-0 scoreline after 120 minutes told the story of a game short on clear-cut chances but high on commitment, as two well-organised defences cancelled each other out.

Match overview

FC Yala, playing at home, enjoyed slightly more possession in the first half but struggled to break down a disciplined Surat Thani City back line. The visitors sat deep and looked to hit on the counter, creating the best chance of the opening period when their striker fired narrowly wide from the edge of the box.

The second half followed a similar pattern. FC Yala pushed more players forward, but Surat Thani City’s goalkeeper was equal to everything, making two excellent saves to keep the score level. As the game moved into extra time, fatigue set in and neither side could find a breakthrough.

Key moments

• 22' — Surat Thani City’s forward shoots just wide after a quick counter.
• 41' — FC Yala force a diving save from a free-kick.
• 67' — A goal-line clearance denies FC Yala the opener.
• 89' — Surat Thani City hit the post from a corner.
• 115' — FC Yala’s last chance is blocked in the box.

Penalty shootout drama

With the score locked at 0-0 after extra time, the tie went to penalties. Surat Thani City held their nerve, converting their kicks with composure, while FC Yala missed one crucial attempt. The visitors advanced, leaving FC Yala to reflect on a defensive performance that was solid but lacked a cutting edge.

Tactical story

FC Yala lined up in a 4-3-3, aiming to stretch the opposition with width. Surat Thani City responded with a 5-3-2 formation that prioritised defensive solidity. The game became a battle of patience, and in the end it was the visitors’ organisation and penalty-shootout execution that made the difference.

Season impact

The cup exit is a disappointment for FC Yala, who will now turn their attention back to league commitments. Surat Thani City, meanwhile, move into the next round with confidence, having shown they can grind out results in knockout football. The clean sheet will be particularly pleasing for their defensive unit.
