Calvo Sotelo B: The Development Arm of a Historic Club

Calvo Sotelo B is the reserve team of CD Calvo Sotelo, the historic football club based in Puertollano, Ciudad Real. The B team plays a vital role in the club's structure, offering young players and squad members valuable competitive minutes in the regional leagues of Castilla-La Mancha. For the Puertollano faithful, the B team is a window into the future of the first team.

While the first team carries the weight of the club's proud history, Calvo Sotelo B is focused on development, tactical growth, and preparing players for the demands of senior football. It is a team that blends academy prospects with experienced reserves returning from injury or suspension.

Role and Competition

Calvo Sotelo B competes in the Primera Autonómica de Castilla-La Mancha, one of the regional leagues that feeds into the Tercera División. The team plays a full league schedule, giving young players a taste of competitive football against adult opposition.

• League: Primera Autonómica de Castilla-La Mancha (Group 1)
• Home ground: Campo de Fútbol Sánchez Menor, Puertollano
• Head coach: Manuel Rodríguez
• Captain: Jorge Cano
• Top scorer: Sergio Delgado (10 goals)

Tactical Identity

Manuel Rodríguez favours a 4-3-3 formation that encourages possession and positional play. The B team is expected to build from the back, with the goalkeeper and centre-backs comfortable in possession. The midfield trio looks to dominate the ball and create chances for the front three.

Because the team's main purpose is development, players are encouraged to take risks and express themselves. Mistakes are treated as learning opportunities, provided the effort and tactical discipline are maintained.

Key Players

Midfielder Álvaro Molina has been the team's metronome, linking defence and attack with intelligent passing. Striker Sergio Delgado leads the scoring charts with 10 goals, showing composure in front of goal and good movement off the ball. Captain Jorge Cano organises the defence and sets the standard in training.

Several younger players have also made the step up from the youth teams, gaining valuable experience and pushing for first-team recognition.

Season So Far

Calvo Sotelo B currently sits third in the Primera Autonómica de Castilla-La Mancha, Group 1, with a positive goal difference. The team has been strong at home, where its possession-based style is most effective, and has picked up valuable points on the road against direct rivals.

The aim for the season is to finish in the top three and challenge for promotion, although the primary goal remains player development. Any success in the league is a bonus that reflects the quality of the club's coaching and academy work.

Home Ground and Matchday

The Campo de Fútbol Sánchez Menor is a familiar setting for Calvo Sotelo supporters. Reserve team matches offer a relaxed but competitive atmosphere, with fans able to see the club's young talents up close. The pitch is well maintained and provides a good surface for the team's passing game.

Admission is often accessible, and the club encourages families to attend, helping to build a connection between the first team and the wider community.

Rivalries and Development Path

Local matches against UD Puertollano and Atlético Puertollano carry extra significance for the B team, as they offer a chance to measure progress against nearby rivals. These games are often competitive and closely fought, giving young players a taste of derby pressure.

The development path at Calvo Sotelo is clear: perform well for the B team, train with the first team, and earn a place in the senior squad. For the club, that pathway is essential to its identity and its future success.
