Athletico Paranaense B 1-0 Azuriz FC — A late goal settled a tense Taça FPF clash at the CT do Caju, as Athletico Paranaense B edged out Azuriz FC 1-0 to keep their cup campaign alive.

Match Overview

In a game of few clear-cut chances, it was the young Athletico side who showed the greater patience and composure. Azuriz, physically strong and well-organised, defended deep and looked to spring counter-attacks through their quick wide players. The first half was a cagey affair, with both midfields cancelling each other out and goalkeepers largely untroubled.

The second half opened up as legs tired and spaces appeared. Athletico's coaching staff turned to the bench, introducing fresh legs in wide areas, and the move paid off. The breakthrough arrived in the closing stages, rewarding the home side's persistence and sending their supporters home happy.

Key Moments

• 22nd minute: Azuriz's best chance of the first half — a fierce shot from the edge of the box is tipped over the bar.
• 44th minute: Athletico's Vinícius Andrade rattles the crossbar with a dipping free-kick.
• 58th minute: Azuriz are forced into an early substitution after a defensive injury.
• 74th minute: A goal-line clearance denies Athletico the opener.
• 84th minute: The winner — Kaio Miranda latches onto a through ball and slots it past the goalkeeper.
• 90+4 minutes: Azuriz's final corner is headed wide as the referee blows the final whistle.

Tactical Story

Athletico Paranaense B controlled possession but found it difficult to break down a compact Azuriz defensive block. The visitors sat in a 4-4-2 shape, denying space between the lines and forcing Athletico to play sideways. It took a moment of individual quality to unlock the door.

Azuriz's game plan was built on transitions, and they nearly nicked a goal on the break several times. But as the game wore on, their defensive concentration wavered, and Athletico's superior fitness told in the final ten minutes. The home side's midfield rotation, with younger legs introduced after the hour mark, was the decisive tactical tweak.

Standout Players

Kaio Miranda will grab the headlines for his match-winning goal, but Athletico's captain and central defender, Léo Derik, was immense at the back, snuffing out several dangerous counter-attacks. Azuriz's goalkeeper was arguably the best player on the pitch, making a string of important saves to keep his side in the contest.

Season Impact

The win gives Athletico Paranaense B a crucial advantage in the Taça FPF knockout stages and boosts confidence among the club's emerging talents. For Azuriz, the narrow defeat is a bitter pill to swallow, but their disciplined performance suggests they will be a tough opponent for anyone in the competition. With the return leg on the horizon, this tie is far from over.
