Tactical story

Al-Wahda Damascus looked to control the game through midfield possession, using the width of the pitch to stretch Al-Jaish’s defensive block. Their opening goal came from a patient build-up, and they continued to look the more composed side in the first half.

Al-Jaish Damascus adjusted after the break, pressing higher and forcing more mistakes in Al-Wahda’s half. The equaliser arrived from exactly that kind of pressure, with Al-Hassan reacting quickest inside the box. Both teams had moments to win it, but neither could find the decisive finish.

The draw gives both Damascus clubs a point in the Syrian Premier League and keeps the derby rivalry firmly in focus. Al-Wahda will feel they did enough to win, while Al-Jaish will take encouragement from their second-half response. With the league table remaining tight, both sides will view the next fixture as an opportunity to build momentum.
