St Gallen Women 1-4 Grasshopper Women — Grasshopper Women produced one of their most complete away performances of the season, sweeping aside St Gallen Women 4-1 in the Switzerland Women's Division 1 on Saturday evening.

Match overview

From the first whistle, the visitors looked sharper, quicker to the second ball and far more ruthless in the final third. St Gallen had spells of possession and never stopped working, but the gulf in cutting edge was clear. Grasshopper's movement in wide areas repeatedly opened up the home defence, and the scoreline was a fair reflection of the chances created.

Key moments

• 8th minute: Grasshopper struck early, Noemi Ivelj finishing a flowing move with a first-time effort at the near post.
• 33rd minute: Sofia Pedrazzini doubled the lead, arriving late in the box to convert a low cross.
• 58th minute: Alina Bienz made it three with a composed finish after a quick turnover in midfield.
• 61st minute: St Gallen gave themselves hope when Lena Bühler pounced on a loose ball and fired home.
• 84th minute: Mara Tschudi ended any doubt, finishing a counter-attack to complete the rout.

How Grasshopper controlled the game

The visitors pressed high and in numbers, forcing St Gallen into rushed passes and long clearances. When they won the ball back, they attacked vertically and with purpose, often needing only three or four passes to create a shooting opportunity. Their wide players stayed high on both flanks, stretching the home back line and creating gaps between full-back and centre-back.

St Gallen's best period came immediately after their goal, when a wave of crosses tested the Grasshopper goalkeeper, but the visitors weathered that spell and reasserted control with a fourth goal that killed the contest.

Standout players

Bienz was the driving force in midfield, linking defence and attack and popping up in the box at exactly the right moment. Ivelj's early goal set the tone, and Tschudi's late finish capped a confident individual display. For St Gallen, Bühler was the brightest spark, chasing lost causes until the final whistle.

Table impact

The three points strengthen Grasshopper's position in the upper half of the Switzerland Women's Division 1 table and underline their credentials as a side capable of challenging the established order. St Gallen remain a competitive outfit at home, but this defeat highlights the work still needed defensively if they are to climb the standings.
