Vaduz 1-2 Thun: Late Winner Seals Away Victory in Swiss Super League

Thun secured a hard-fought 2-1 away victory against Vaduz in the Switzerland Super League on Sunday, 20 September 2026. The 20:00 kick-off was a closely contested battle, but a late goal from the visitors proved decisive at the Rheinpark Stadion.

Vaduz enjoyed long spells of possession and created several promising opportunities, but Thun’s defensive organisation and clinical finishing made the difference. The away side took the lead in the first half, weathered a Vaduz comeback, and then struck the winner in the 76th minute to claim all three points.

Match Overview

Thun opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a well-executed counter-attack. Vaduz responded positively and equalized in the 49th minute, finishing off a flowing move with a shot from inside the penalty area. The home crowd sensed a turnaround, and Vaduz pushed forward in search of a second goal.

However, Thun remained dangerous on the break and found the winner in the 76th minute. A quick transition caught Vaduz’s defence out of position, and the Thun forward kept his composure to slot the ball past the goalkeeper. Vaduz pressed hard in the final minutes, but Thun’s back line held firm to secure the win.

Key Moments

• 18th minute: Thun take the lead with a calm finish after a fast counter-attack.
• 49th minute: Vaduz equalize with a well-placed shot from the edge of the box.
• 76th minute: Thun score the winning goal, again exploiting space on the break.
• Late pressure: Vaduz win a series of corners, but Thun’s defence clears every danger.

Tactical Story

Vaduz set up in a 4-2-3-1 and tried to control the tempo through midfield. They moved the ball patiently, looking for pockets of space between Thun’s defensive lines. Their equalizer came from exactly that kind of build-up, but they struggled to break down a compact opponent in the final third.

Thun lined up in a 4-4-2 and focused on defensive discipline and rapid transitions. Their midfielders dropped deep to protect the back four, and their forwards worked tirelessly to press Vaduz’s centre-backs. It was not a possession-heavy performance, but it was tactically astute and ultimately effective.

Standout Players

Thun’s match-winner was the obvious standout, scoring the decisive goal and causing problems with his movement all game. Their goalkeeper also deserves credit for a string of saves in the second half. For Vaduz, the central midfielder was the driving force, dictating play and scoring the equalizer, while the left-back delivered several dangerous crosses.

Season Impact

The victory moves Thun up the Switzerland Super League table and gives them momentum for the weeks ahead. Vaduz, meanwhile, will feel frustrated after dominating possession without taking a point. The loss highlights the fine margins in the division and the importance of converting chances. This result will be remembered as a lesson in counter-attacking efficiency and could prove crucial in the final standings.
