Stade Payerne power past Vevey Sports with second-half surge

Stade Payerne produced a commanding second-half display to beat Vevey Sports 3-1 in the Switzerland Division 2 League on October 10, 2026. The match, which kicked off at 23:30 local time, turned after a tight first half, with Payerne scoring twice after the break to secure a convincing away victory.

Vevey Sports began brightly and took the lead, but Payerne’s response was measured and increasingly dominant. By the final whistle, the visitors looked the stronger side in every department, combining solid defending with ruthless finishing.

Match overview

The hosts started with purpose and were rewarded in the 19th minute. A quick throw-in caught Payerne’s defence napping, and forward Loïc Favre drove a low shot into the bottom corner to make it 1-0. Vevey’s early pressure had paid off, and for a brief period, they looked capable of controlling the match.

Payerne equalised in the 38th minute through a well-worked team goal. Midfielder Bastien Rochat played a one-two on the edge of the box before curling a shot into the far corner. The goal changed the momentum, and Payerne finished the half on the front foot.

The second half was a different story. Payerne took the lead in the 61st minute when striker Maxime Dubois rose highest to head home a corner. Vevey’s defence struggled with set pieces all evening, and that weakness was punished again in the 78th minute when Dubois turned provider, squaring the ball for Rochat to score his second of the night.

Key moments

• 19’ – Vevey Sports goal: Loïc Favre finished a quick attack to give the hosts the lead.
• 38’ – Payerne equaliser: Bastien Rochat curled in a fine effort after a neat exchange.
• 61’ – Payerne go ahead: Maxime Dubois headed home from a corner.
• 78’ – Payerne seal it: Rochat tapped in after Dubois’s accurate low cross.

Vevey tried to respond after conceding the third, but their attacks became increasingly desperate. Payerne’s goalkeeper made one excellent late save to preserve the two-goal margin, and the visitors comfortably saw out the closing stages.

Tactical story and standout players

Vevey Sports lined up in a 4-3-3 and tried to press high, but their midfield was often overrun once Payerne adjusted their shape. Payerne switched to a more direct 4-2-3-1 after the equaliser, using the pace of their wide players to stretch the hosts. The tactical shift worked perfectly, as Vevey’s full-backs were pinned back and no longer able to support the attack.

Bastien Rochat was the clear standout for Stade Payerne, scoring twice and dictating the tempo in midfield. Maxime Dubois was also excellent, with a goal and an assist, while centre-back Antoine Girard won everything in the air. For Vevey, Loïc Favre took his goal well and worked hard, but he was isolated for long periods after the first half-hour.

Standings and season impact

The three points lift Stade Payerne up the Switzerland Division 2 League standings and underline their credentials as a side capable of challenging for a high finish. Their away form is becoming a real asset, and the manner of this victory—coming from behind and then dominating—will give the squad belief for the weeks ahead.

Vevey Sports remain a dangerous opponent at home, but this defeat highlights the importance of defensive concentration. Conceding from a corner and then failing to track runners in the box cost them dearly. The result also improves Payerne’s recent head-to-head record against Vevey, and it could be an important psychological edge if the two teams meet again in a decisive part of the season.
