SV Muttenz and FC Black Stars Basel shared the points in a competitive 2-2 draw in the Switzerland Division 2 League on 3 October 2026. The match had the intensity of a local derby, with both sides enjoying spells of control and creating enough chances to win it.

Black Stars Basel struck first, but SV Muttenz responded strongly either side of half-time to take the lead. A late equaliser from the visitors ensured the points were split, leaving both clubs with mixed emotions after an entertaining contest.

Match Overview

The early exchanges were cautious, with both teams looking to establish their midfield shape. Black Stars Basel found the opener through a well-timed run and finish, but SV Muttenz grew into the game and equalised before the break. The home side then carried that momentum into the second half, scoring again to edge ahead.

Black Stars Basel responded with pressure and substitutions, eventually finding a late leveller. Neither side could find a winner in the final minutes, and the draw was a fair reflection of a match in which both defences struggled to fully contain the opposing attack.

Tactical Story

SV Muttenz used their width effectively, stretching Black Stars Basel’s defence and creating crossing opportunities. Their second-half goal came from exactly that pattern, with quick ball movement opening space on the flank. However, Muttenz’s inability to manage the game after taking the lead proved costly.

Black Stars Basel were dangerous on the break and refused to let the match slip away. Their midfield pressed higher in the final 20 minutes, forcing turnovers and pinning Muttenz back. The late equaliser came from sustained pressure, with Markovic arriving unmarked at the back post.

Standout Players

Luca Frei was a bright spark for SV Muttenz, combining energy with a well-taken goal. Jan Weber’s header was another highlight, and the midfielder worked tirelessly throughout. For FC Black Stars Basel, Dario Lovric and Andrej Markovic both delivered important goals, while their goalkeeper made a key save late on to preserve the draw.

Season Impact

The draw keeps both clubs in the middle section of the Switzerland Division 2 League table, though each will feel they could have taken more. SV Muttenz will be pleased with their attacking display but disappointed to concede late. FC Black Stars Basel showed character to fight back twice, a trait that could serve them well as the season progresses. The return fixture between these two Basel-area clubs should be another closely fought encounter.
