Grasshoppers U21 1-3 FC Courtetelle: Clinical Visitors Take Swiss Division 2 Away Win

FC Courtetelle delivered one of the more assured away performances of the Switzerland Division 2 League weekend, defeating Grasshoppers U21 3-1 on 25 October 2026. The visitors combined compact defending with sharp counter-attacking to punish a Grasshoppers side that enjoyed plenty of the ball but lacked the same cutting edge in the final third.

The result gives Courtetelle a valuable three points on the road and reinforces their reputation as a difficult team to break down. For Grasshoppers U21, the match was a reminder that possession without penetration can be costly in a division where transitions decide games.

Match overview

Grasshoppers U21 started with the energy expected of a young home side, pushing their full-backs high and looking to create overloads in wide areas. Courtetelle, however, were content to sit in a disciplined mid-block and strike through quick vertical passes. That approach paid off midway through the first half when the visitors opened the scoring against the run of play.

Courtetelle doubled their advantage early in the second period, forcing Grasshoppers to chase the game. The home side pulled one back through a well-worked move around the hour mark, but any hopes of a comeback were extinguished when Courtetelle restored their two-goal cushion late on.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Romain Chételat gave Courtetelle the lead with a low finish after a quick turnover in midfield.
• 52nd minute: Julien Brahimi made it 2-0, arriving at the back post to convert a measured cross.
• 67th minute: Elio Caicedo gave Grasshoppers U21 a lifeline with a composed finish inside the penalty area.
• 84th minute: Noah Schaller sealed the win for Courtetelle, finishing a counter-attack after Grasshoppers had committed numbers forward.

Tactical story

Grasshoppers U21 dictated territory for long spells, but their build-up play became predictable as the match wore on. Courtetelle’s midfield screen protected the centre-backs well and forced the home side into crosses that were comfortably defended. When possession was won, Courtetelle moved the ball forward with purpose, often targeting the space behind Grasshoppers’ advanced full-backs.

The visitors’ game management was particularly impressive after taking the lead. They slowed the tempo when needed, won fouls in useful areas and refused to be dragged into an open contest until Grasshoppers had no choice but to commit bodies forward.

Standout performers

Chételat set the tone with his goal and intelligent link play, while Brahimi’s movement caused problems throughout. Schaller’s late goal capped a strong all-round display, and Courtetelle’s goalkeeper produced two important saves at 2-1 to preserve the advantage. For Grasshoppers U21, Caicedo was the brightest attacking outlet, and the young midfielder’s willingness to drive forward offered the hosts their best moments.

What the result means

The win strengthens Courtetelle’s position in the Swiss Division 2 League standings and gives them momentum ahead of their next fixture. Grasshoppers U21 remain a developing side with clear technical quality, but this result highlights the need for greater ruthlessness in the box. In a competitive division, converting possession into goals is often the difference between mid-table security and a promotion push.
