Monthey Secures 2-1 Away Win at FC Prishtina Bern in Swiss Division 2 League

Monthey claimed a hard-fought 2-1 away victory against FC Prishtina Bern in the Switzerland Divison 2 League on September 27, 2026. The visitors scored early, absorbed pressure after Prishtina equalised, and found a late winner to take all three points in a competitive and physically demanding match.

Match Overview

Monthey started brightly and needed only nine minutes to take the lead. Their early goal forced FC Prishtina Bern to chase the game, and the hosts responded with a spell of sustained possession. Prishtina pushed their midfield higher and began to create chances, eventually finding an equaliser before half-time.

The second half was more balanced, but Monthey's defensive resilience and counter-attacking threat proved decisive. They defended deep when needed, frustrated Prishtina's creative players and struck the winning goal in the final quarter of the match.

Key Moments

• 9th minute: Monthey took the lead with a composed finish after a quick break down the left.
• 34th minute: FC Prishtina Bern equalised with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area.
• 61st minute: Prishtina nearly took the lead, but Monthey's goalkeeper made a strong save at the near post.

• 90+2 minutes: Prishtina pushed everyone forward, but Monthey cleared a dangerous corner to secure the win.

Tactical Story

Monthey's approach was pragmatic and effective. They allowed FC Prishtina Bern to have more of the ball but stayed compact in defence, closing the central areas and forcing the hosts into wide deliveries. When they won possession, they moved the ball forward quickly, targeting the space behind Prishtina's advanced full-backs.

FC Prishtina Bern controlled large periods of the match, especially after their equaliser. However, they lacked a cutting edge against a well-organised back line. Their best moments came from set pieces and long-range shots, but Monthey's goalkeeper was equal to the challenge. The winning goal came from exactly the kind of transition moment that Monthey had been waiting for all game.

Standout Players

Monthey's goalkeeper was a key figure, making important saves in both halves. Their centre-forward also delivered a strong performance, scoring the opener and causing problems with intelligent movement. In midfield, the captain provided energy and discipline. For FC Prishtina Bern, the central midfielder was the standout, driving forward and linking play, while their goalkeeper kept the score level for long periods before the late winner.

Swiss Division 2 League Table and Season Impact

The win lifts Monthey up the Swiss Division 2 League standings and gives them valuable momentum on the road. Away victories like this often define a season, and the manner of the result — scoring late after withstanding pressure — will boost confidence in the dressing room. FC Prishtina Bern are left to rue missed chances at home, but their overall performance showed enough to suggest they will remain competitive.

The three points could matter greatly in the race for promotion and playoff positions. Monthey now turn their attention to their next fixture with renewed belief, while Prishtina Bern will focus on turning possession into goals.
