Yverdon Sport FC Cruise to 2-0 Win at Etoile Carouge in Challenge League

Yverdon Sport FC produced a professional away display to beat Etoile Carouge 2-0 in the Switzerland Challenge League on 10 October 2026. Two well-taken goals either side of half-time sealed a valuable three points at Stade de la Fontenette, leaving the hosts to rue missed chances in front of their own supporters.

Match Overview

From the opening whistle, Yverdon looked the more composed side, controlling possession and probing the Etoile Carouge defence with quick combinations down the flanks. The visitors took the lead in the 23rd minute when a clever through ball released striker Lucas Moreira, who calmly slotted past the onrushing goalkeeper. Etoile Carouge responded with a spell of pressure before the break, but a series of blocks and a smart save from the Yverdon goalkeeper preserved the advantage.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Etoile Carouge pushed more bodies forward in search of an equaliser, but Yverdon’s compact midfield limited clear opportunities. The decisive moment arrived in the 67th minute when a corner was only half-cleared, and midfielder Evan Costa lashed a low drive into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. That goal effectively ended the contest, and Yverdon managed the closing stages with maturity.

Key Moments

• 23’ – Goal (Yverdon): Lucas Moreira races onto a defence-splitting pass and finishes clinically.
• 41’ – Chance (Etoile Carouge): A header from a free-kick flashes just wide of the far post.
• 67’ – Goal (Yverdon): Evan Costa pounces on a loose ball and drills it home from 18 yards.
• 82’ – Save (Yverdon): The goalkeeper tips a dipping effort over the bar to deny a late consolation.

Tactical Story

Yverdon set up in a disciplined 4-2-3-1, with the two holding midfielders shielding the back four and allowing the full-backs to push high. That structure frustrated Etoile Carouge’s attempts to play through the middle, forcing the hosts into hopeful crosses that were comfortably dealt with. When Etoile Carouge did find space out wide, Yverdon’s centre-backs were aggressive in the air and quick to clear their lines.

In possession, the visitors were patient, often switching play from side to side to stretch the opposition. Their second goal epitomised that approach: a short corner routine drew defenders out of position, and the cut-back found Costa in space. Etoile Carouge’s manager made attacking substitutions in the second half, but the lack of a focal point in the box meant their pressure rarely translated into clear-cut chances.

Standout Players

Lucas Moreira was a constant threat with his movement and link-up play, and his first-half goal set the tone. Evan Costa dictated the tempo from midfield and capped his performance with the second goal. For Etoile Carouge, goalkeeper Mathis Roux kept the scoreline respectable with several sharp saves, while captain Julien Perret tried to drive his team forward from the middle of the park.

Season Impact

The win lifts Yverdon into the upper half of the Challenge League standings and strengthens their push for a promotion play-off spot. For Etoile Carouge, the defeat leaves them searching for consistency, especially at home, as they look to climb away from the lower reaches of the table. With the season still young, both sides will take lessons from this encounter—Yverdon’s ruthlessness in front of goal proved the difference, while Etoile Carouge must find a way to convert territory into points.
