Helsingborgs 0-0 Norrby IF: Superettan promotion push stalls in tense stalemate

Helsingborgs were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Norrby IF in the Sweden Superettan on Sunday, 20 September 2026. The home side dominated possession and created the better chances, but a combination of wasteful finishing and disciplined Norrby defending kept the scoreline blank at Olympia.

The result leaves Helsingborgs with a sense of two points dropped in their push for promotion, while Norrby IF will take encouragement from a resilient away performance and a valuable clean sheet.

Match overview

Helsingborgs started in a 4-2-3-1 and looked to control the game through midfield, switching play from side to side and delivering crosses into the box. Norrby IF set up in a compact 4-4-2, happy to concede territory and defend the central areas in numbers.

The first half was mostly played in Norrby's half, but clear chances were rare. Helsingborgs' best openings came from set pieces and shots from the edge of the area, while Norrby threatened only occasionally on the counterattack.

Key moments

• 9th minute: Helsingborgs created the first chance, but a low effort from inside the box was saved by the Norrby goalkeeper.
• 27th minute: Norrby broke quickly down the right, forcing a covering tackle at the near post.
• 52nd minute: Helsingborgs had the ball in the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a delayed flag.
• 74th minute: A powerful header from a corner was tipped over the crossbar by Norrby's goalkeeper.
• 90+2 minutes: Helsingborgs' final chance came from a deep cross, but a defender cleared off the line.

Tactical story

Helsingborgs' main problem was penetration. They moved the ball well in front of Norrby's defensive block, but too often settled for crosses from wide areas rather than combining through the middle. Norrby's centre-backs were excellent in the air and consistently cleared dangerous deliveries.

Norrby's game plan was clear: stay compact, slow the tempo and take the sting out of the home crowd. They committed fouls when necessary, tracked runners into the box and defended corners with focus. It was not an adventurous display, but it was effective.

Standout players

Helsingborgs' goalkeeper had a quiet but reliable match, while their central defender produced several important clearances. In midfield, Helsingborgs' captain tried to drive the team forward and was involved in most of their best moves. For Norrby IF, the goalkeeper was the standout with important saves, and the two centre-backs delivered a commanding defensive performance.

Superettan table impact

The draw checks Helsingborgs' momentum in the promotion race and hands rivals an opportunity to close the gap. Norrby IF, meanwhile, add a hard-earned away point to their survival effort. With the Superettan table remaining tight, both sides know that small margins will decide their seasons.

Helsingborgs will need to turn possession into goals in their next fixtures, while Norrby can build on a defensive display that showed they are capable of frustrating stronger opponents. The head-to-head remains level after this goalless encounter, with both managers left with plenty to analyse.
