Assyriska FF’s hopes of climbing the Sweden Division 1 table were dented on 27 September 2026 as Pitea IF secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Södertälje Fotbollsarena. In a match that swung on fine margins, the visitors from the north produced a disciplined second-half display to take all three points back to Norrbotten.

The result leaves Assyriska searching for consistency in Ettan Norra, while Piteå gain momentum in a tightly packed mid-table battle.

Match Overview

From the opening whistle, Assyriska looked to impose themselves on the game, using the width of their home pitch to stretch Piteå’s back line. The home side enjoyed the better of the early possession, but it was Piteå who struck first against the run of play. A quick counter-attack in the 18th minute ended with Emil Nyström slotting a low shot past the Assyriska goalkeeper after a clever through ball from midfield.

Assyriska responded well. Their pressure finally told in the 34th minute when Daniel Kaya latched onto a loose ball inside the penalty area and fired home from close range. The equaliser lifted the home crowd, and for a period either side of half-time, Assyriska looked the more likely side to score next.

Key Moments

• 18’ – Piteå take the lead through Emil Nyström on the counter.
• 34’ – Daniel Kaya equalises for Assyriska after a goalmouth scramble.
• 57’ – Assyriska’s best chance of the second half: a header from a corner clips the top of the crossbar.
• 72’ – Piteå regain the lead when Viktor Lindgren curls a shot into the far corner from the edge of the box.
• 88’ – Assyriska push bodies forward but Piteå’s defence holds firm.

Tactical Story

Assyriska set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, aiming to dominate the ball and create chances through their wide players. For large spells, that worked: they completed more passes in the opposition half and won several corners. However, their inability to convert pressure into clear-cut chances proved costly. Piteå, by contrast, were content to sit deeper and spring forward with pace. Their 4-4-2 shape without the ball frustrated Assyriska, and the visitors’ two goals both came from rapid transitions. The winning goal was a perfect example: a turnover in midfield, a quick pass into the channel, and a composed finish from Lindgren.

Standout Players

For Piteå, Viktor Lindgren was the difference-maker. The forward not only scored the winner but also led the pressing line and held the ball up effectively. Emil Nyström’s opener was equally important, and goalkeeper Axel Pettersson made two crucial saves in the closing stages. Assyriska’s Daniel Kaya was their most dangerous player, taking his goal well and constantly probing. Midfielder Gabriel Farhat also impressed with his range of passing, but the home side lacked a ruthless edge in the final third.

Table and Season Impact

The win lifts Piteå IF into a more comfortable position in the Ettan Norra standings, keeping them in touch with the promotion-chasing pack. For Assyriska FF, the defeat leaves them looking over their shoulder, with little margin for error in the coming weeks. Both teams now turn their attention to the next round, where Assyriska will need to rediscover their scoring touch on the road, while Piteå will look to build on a valuable away victory.
