Dunajská Streda 2-2 Spartak Trnava — Dunajská Streda and Spartak Trnava played out a gripping 2-2 draw in the Slovak Niké liga on September 21, 2026, a result that kept both clubs in the early-season title conversation but left each with a sense of what might have been. Twice the home side led at the MOL Aréna, and twice the visitors from Trnava found a response, turning a tense tactical battle into one of the most watchable draws of the round.

Match overview

The contest pitted DAC’s patient possession game against Spartak Trnava’s disciplined pressing and quick transitions. Dunajská Streda started with intent, pushing their full-backs high and looking to overload the right side, while Trnava sat compact in a 4-2-3-1 and waited for turnovers. The first half was played at a high tempo, with both goalkeepers called into action before the break. The second half opened up further as legs tired and space appeared in midfield, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Dunajská Streda took the lead after a low cross from the right was turned in at the near post, sending the home crowd into full voice.
• 39th minute: Spartak Trnava equalised from a corner, their centre-back rising highest to head into the bottom corner.
• 58th minute: DAC regained the advantage from the penalty spot after a foul inside the box. The home No. 10 sent the keeper the wrong way.
• 82nd minute: Trnava levelled again with a superb long-range strike that dipped just under the crossbar, silencing the MOL Aréna.
• 90+3rd minute: Dunajská Streda had one final chance from a free-kick, but the Trnava wall blocked the effort and the points were shared.

Tactical story

Dunajská Streda’s build-up was patient, often involving the goalkeeper in the first phase to draw Trnava’s press. Their best moments came when the No. 8 and No. 10 combined between the lines, forcing the visitors’ midfield to step out and creating gaps for runners from deep. Trnava, meanwhile, were dangerous on the counter and from set pieces. Their equalisers both came from moments when DAC lost concentration after scoring, a recurring issue that has cost them points in recent Niké liga standings. The visitors’ midfield anchor was excellent at breaking up play, but Trnava struggled to keep possession for long spells, which invited pressure.

Standout players

Dunajská Streda’s goalkeeper made two important saves in the first half, including a one-on-one stop that kept the score level at 1-1. The home captain drove his team forward repeatedly and was involved in the build-up to the opening goal. For Spartak Trnava, the central defender was commanding in the air and scored the first equaliser, while the substitute winger changed the game after coming on, providing the assist for the late leveller. The Trnava goalkeeper also deserves credit for a reflex save in the 71st minute.

What the result means for the table

The draw leaves both clubs within touching distance of the early Niké liga playoff places, though each will feel two points slipped away. Dunajská Streda remain difficult to beat at home, but their inability to hold a lead has become a talking point. Spartak Trnava showed character to come from behind twice, a trait that will serve them well in the long race for European qualification. In the head-to-head record, this result adds another tight chapter between two clubs that have developed a genuine rivalry in recent seasons. Both sides now turn their attention to the next matchday, knowing the title race is already beginning to take shape.
