Tatran Prešov edged Banik Lehota Pod Vtacnikom 3-2 in a five-goal thriller at Štadión Tatran, strengthening their promotion push in the Slovak 2. Liga. The hosts twice surrendered the lead before a late winner sealed a dramatic three points in a contest that swung from end to end.

Match Overview

Tatran Prešov started with intent, pressing high and forcing Banik deep inside their own half. The breakthrough arrived in the 12th minute when Lukáš Kotula collected a loose ball twenty yards from goal and drilled a low shot into the bottom corner. Banik responded well, though, and equalised on 29 minutes through Marek Hruška, who finished off a swift counter-attack after Tatran lost possession in midfield.

The home side restored their advantage nine minutes after the restart. Patrik Šimko rose highest to meet a whipped free-kick from the right and powered a header past the visiting goalkeeper. But Banik refused to fold, and Ján Palacký punished a defensive mix-up on 71 minutes to make it 2-2. Just as the game looked set for a draw, Tomáš Bednár curled a superb effort into the far corner in the 88th minute to send the home supporters into raptures.

Tactical Story

Tatran Prešov lined up in a 4-2-3-1 and looked to dominate possession through their midfield double pivot. Their full-backs pushed high, creating overloads on the flanks, and the majority of their best chances came from wide areas. Banik Lehota Pod Vtacnikom, by contrast, sat in a compact 4-4-2 and looked to spring forward on the break. That approach worked twice, but Tatran’s patience and superior individual quality eventually told. The hosts finished with more shots on target and a clear edge in territorial control.

Standout Players

Tomáš Bednár was the obvious hero, his late goal capping a lively performance from the bench. Lukáš Kotula set the tone early with his goal and constant probing, while Patrik Šimko was a threat from set-pieces all afternoon. For Banik, Marek Hruška’s energy and finishing kept his side in the game, and Ján Palacký showed sharp instincts for his equaliser.

Season Impact

The win lifts Tatran Prešov into a stronger position in the Slovak 2. Liga standings, keeping them firmly in the hunt for promotion to the top flight. For Banik Lehota Pod Vtacnikom, the defeat leaves them searching for consistency in mid-table. Tatran will take confidence from their attacking output, though the coaching staff will want to address the defensive lapses that allowed Banik back into the match twice.
