Spisska Nova Ves claimed a controlled 2-0 victory over local rivals Poprad in the Slovak 3. Liga, delivering a disciplined performance in front of their home supporters. Two goals proved more than enough against an opponent that struggled to convert possession into genuine chances.

Match Overview

This fixture carried extra significance given the regional rivalry between the two clubs, and the intensity on the pitch reflected that. Spisska Nova Ves managed the occasion better, taking the lead and then defending their advantage with maturity, while Poprad were left frustrated by their inability to find a way back into the match.

By the final whistle, the home side had secured a clean sheet and three points — a professional, efficient evening's work.

Key Moments

• A lively opening saw both sides commit players forward in search of the first goal.
• Spisska Nova Ves broke the deadlock with a composed finish following good work in wide areas.
• Poprad's best spell came shortly after conceding, forcing saves and half-chances but failing to score.
• The second goal arrived as the visitors pushed forward, punishing them on the counter-attack.
• A solid defensive finish saw the hosts see out the closing stages without alarm.

Tactical Story

Spisska Nova Ves set up with a compact midfield and looked to control the game through quick combination play in central areas. Their full-backs provided the width, and it was from those positions that the opening goal originated. Once ahead, they dropped slightly deeper and invited Poprad forward, confident in their ability to defend the box and break quickly.

Poprad tried to stretch the play with long diagonal passes and crosses, but their final ball too often lacked accuracy. Their midfielders worked hard to win second balls, but the home defence remained organised and won the majority of key duels. The second goal, scored on the break, was a perfect illustration of the home side's game plan working exactly as intended.

Standout Players

The Spisska Nova Ves back line deserves particular praise for a resilient, error-free display, while the goalkeeper commanded his area confidently under pressure. Both goalscorers took their chances well. For Poprad, the goalkeeper kept the score respectable with several strong saves, and their central defenders battled throughout.

Season Impact

Derby victories are always valuable, and this one gives Spisska Nova Ves bragging rights as well as three points in the Slovak 3. Liga table. A clean sheet against a local rival reinforces the defensive foundations the team has built this season. Poprad, meanwhile, will look to respond quickly, having shown enough in possession to suggest better results are within reach.
