Lokomotiva Kosice claimed the Kosice derby bragging rights with a narrow 1-0 win over Slavia TU Kosice in the Slovak 3.Liga on 17 October 2026. A second-half strike from Lukas Koval settled a tense, tightly contested match played under the lights at 20:30, giving the home side three valuable points and local supremacy in a fixture that always carries extra weight.

Match overview

Lokomotiva Kosice and Slavia TU Kosice produced a derby that was short on clear-cut chances but high on intensity, exactly as the occasion demanded. The home side started with greater purpose, pressing high and forcing Slavia TU Kosice into a series of hurried clearances, while the visitors grew into the game as the first half wore on and began to enjoy more possession in midfield.

With so little space between the lines, the match was decided by one moment of quality rather than sustained dominance. Lokomotiva found it in the 67th minute, and from that point onward they defended their lead with discipline, composure, and no small amount of character.

Key moments

• 21st minute: Lukas Koval tested Slavia goalkeeper Adam Varga with a low shot from the edge of the box after a quick Lokomotiva turnover.
• 37th minute: Slavia TU Kosice headed narrowly over from a free-kick, their best chance of the opening period.
• 54th minute: Lokomotiva goalkeeper Patrik Hruska made an important low save to deny a close-range effort after a goalmouth scramble.
• 67th minute: The breakthrough arrived when Koval collected the ball on the right, cut inside, and guided a composed finish into the far corner.
• 82nd minute: Slavia headed wide from a promising crossing position as the visitors pushed more bodies forward.
• 90+2 minutes: Hruska preserved the win with a strong save at his near post, sparking relief around the home support.

Tactical story

Lokomotiva Kosice set up in a compact 4-2-3-1 shape and deliberately denied Slavia TU Kosice access to the central corridor. The two holding midfielders screened the back four well, forcing the visitors wide and making crosses easier to defend. When Lokomotiva won the ball back, they looked to attack quickly through the inside channels, and that approach produced the decisive goal.

Slavia TU Kosice saw plenty of the ball in the second half but struggled to turn possession into genuine penetration. Their best moments came from set pieces and second balls, yet the final pass was often rushed. Lokomotiva’s substitutions also helped, adding fresh legs in midfield and allowing them to protect the narrow advantage without dropping too deep for long spells.

Standout players

Koval was the obvious match-winner, showing patience and precision with his finish, while Hruska’s late save underlined why the clean sheet felt so significant. Centre-back Milan Baca was excellent at the heart of the Lokomotiva defence, winning headers and stepping out to intercept danger before it developed. For Slavia TU Kosice, Varga kept his side in the contest with several assured stops, but the visitors lacked a comparable moment of quality at the other end.

Table and season impact

The result gives Lokomotiva Kosice a timely boost in the Slovak 3.Liga standings and strengthens their position in the upper half of the table. Derby wins can shape a season’s momentum, and this one will be remembered for the clean sheet as much as the goal. Slavia TU Kosice, meanwhile, leave with a sense of missed opportunity after enjoying enough territory to take something from the game. The head-to-head record now favours Lokomotiva, and the return fixture will carry even more edge.
