Lokomotíva Košice produced their most complete performance of the season on Saturday evening, brushing aside MFK Vranov nad Topľou 3-0 in a Slovak 3. Liga fixture that was effectively decided inside the opening half hour. Three goals, a clean sheet and a dominant share of possession made it a satisfying night for the home supporters.

The victory strengthens Lokomotíva's position in the upper reaches of the table and serves notice that the Košice club intends to be part of the promotion conversation as the campaign progresses.

Match overview

From the first whistle Lokomotíva pressed high, denying Vranov nad Topľou any time on the ball in their own half. The tactic paid off almost immediately: a turnover deep in the visitors' territory produced the opening goal, and the home side never looked back.

Vranov attempted to steady themselves by dropping deeper and playing longer, but that only invited more pressure. By the time the third goal went in, the contest had the feel of a training exercise, with Lokomotíva patiently probing for openings and the visitors hanging on.

Key moments

• 9' – 1-0. High pressing forced a hurried clearance, and the loose ball was struck first time from just outside the box, beating the goalkeeper low to his left.
• 18' – 2-0. A well-worked move down the left ended with a cross to the back post and a composed header back across goal.
• 29' – 3-0. The best goal of the night: a one-two on the edge of the area opened up the defence and the finish was slipped inside the far post.
• 57' – Denied by the woodwork. Lokomotíva's striker rattled the crossbar with a dipping effort from 20 yards.
• 73' – Rare Vranov chance. A free-kick from a dangerous position was curled narrowly over the bar.

Tactical story

Lokomotíva's approach was aggressive and vertical. Their front three pressed in a coordinated line, cutting off passes to the full-backs and forcing Vranov's centre-backs to go long. With a physically strong midfield winning the second balls, the home side were able to sustain attacks for long periods.

In possession, the emphasis was on width. Both full-backs pushed high, stretching Vranov's defensive block and creating space for the inside forwards to drift into the half-spaces. The second goal was a perfect illustration of that pattern.

Vranov nad Topľou's evening was defined by their inability to keep the ball. Under constant pressure, their midfield dropped too deep, leaving a large gap between the lines that Lokomotíva exploited repeatedly. Their manager made a double substitution at half-time to add fresh legs, and the second half was more balanced, but the damage had long since been done.

Standout performers

• Lokomotíva's central striker: Two goals and an assist, linking play intelligently and dropping into midfield to help the build-up.
• Lokomotíva's left-back: An outstanding all-round display, providing width in attack and covering well defensively.
• Lokomotíva's goalkeeper: Barely tested, but alert and decisive when called upon to claim crosses.
• Vranov's stand-in captain: Never stopped working, and his second-half free-kick was the visitors' only genuine threat.

What the result means in the table

A three-goal win and a clean sheet is exactly the kind of result that builds momentum in the Slovak 3. Liga, where goal difference can be decisive in the race at the top. Lokomotíva Košice now have a strong home record to protect and a platform to attack the coming weeks.

MFK Vranov nad Topľou leave with work to do. Their defensive resilience under sustained pressure will need to improve quickly if they are to avoid being dragged into the lower reaches of the division.
