Zafra 1-1 Montijo: Points Shared in Tight Tercera División RFEF Derby

Zafra and Montijo played out a 1-1 draw in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on 11 October 2026, a result that reflected the balanced nature of an intense regional contest. Both sides had spells of control, but neither could find the winning goal in the closing stages.

The match was tight from the first whistle, with midfield battles shaping much of the play. Montijo struck first, but Zafra responded before half-time and pushed for a winner after the break. In the end, a share of the points felt like a fair outcome.

Match Overview

Montijo began with a compact shape and looked to hit Zafra on the counter. Their opening goal came from a well-executed attacking move, and for a short period they seemed capable of controlling the tempo. Zafra, however, reacted positively, raising their pressing line and forcing Montijo deeper.

The equaliser arrived before the interval and changed the mood of the game. In the second half, Zafra had more of the ball, while Montijo remained dangerous from set pieces. Clear chances were limited, and both goalkeepers made important saves to preserve the draw.

Key Moments

• 21st minute – Montijo take the lead: A quick break down the left ended with a low shot that found the far corner.
• 39th minute – Zafra equalise: A patient build-up opened space at the edge of the box, and a precise finish made it 1-1.
• 67th minute – Zafra nearly go ahead: A header from a corner beat the goalkeeper but was cleared off the line.
• 88th minute – Montijo’s late chance: A free kick was swung into the box, but the effort went narrowly wide.

Tactical Story

Zafra’s approach was based on possession and patient probing. They tried to draw Montijo out of their defensive shape, then attack the spaces behind the midfield. The equaliser came from exactly that pattern, with quick passing creating a shooting lane.

Montijo were more direct. They looked to win the ball in midfield and spring forward quickly, and their opening goal showed how effective that can be. Defensively, they defended their box well for much of the second half, though Zafra’s set-piece threat caused problems. Neither team was willing to take reckless risks late on, which is why the match ended level.

Standout Players

Zafra’s midfield creator was at the heart of their best moves, constantly finding pockets of space and linking with the forwards. Montijo’s goalscorer was sharp throughout, while their centre-back produced a commanding display, winning headers and making timely interceptions. Both goalkeepers also deserve credit for key saves in the second half.

What the Result Means

The draw keeps both teams in the middle pack of the Spanish Tercera División RFEF, with each taking a point from a difficult fixture. Zafra will feel they did enough to win, especially after their second-half pressure, but they lacked the final touch. Montijo will be satisfied with an away point against a direct rival.

In a division where fine margins decide promotion and relegation fights, this 1-1 result could look important later in the season. Both sides showed enough organisation to suggest they can compete, but both also know that turning draws into wins will be the key to climbing the table.
