Viveiro CF and Racing Villalbes played out a competitive 1-1 draw in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on 18 October 2026, with both Galician sides taking a point from a match that swung one way and then the other.

A tight derby with real edge

Matches between teams from the same region often carry extra intensity, and this meeting at Viveiro’s home ground was no exception. The 18:00 kick-off brought a lively crowd and a cagey opening, with neither side willing to give away space in the early exchanges. Viveiro CF looked the more purposeful team in the first half, pressing high and forcing Racing Villalbes into a number of hurried clearances.

Match overview

The home side broke the deadlock midway through the first half when a quick move down the right created space for a low cross into the box. Viveiro’s centre-forward timed his run perfectly and converted from close range to make it 1-0. Racing Villalbes responded well, gradually settling into the game and finding more joy in wide areas as the half wore on. The equaliser arrived after the break, following a spell of sustained pressure and a well-worked move that opened up the Viveiro defence.

Both teams had chances to win it in the final 20 minutes. Viveiro pushed forward in search of a winner, while Racing looked dangerous on the counter-attack. In the end, a point apiece felt like a fair reflection of a match that was closely contested from start to finish.

Key moments

• 23 minutes: Viveiro CF take the lead through a close-range finish after a bright move down the right flank.
• 41 minutes: Racing Villalbes force a smart save from the Viveiro goalkeeper with a curling effort from the edge of the area.
• 58 minutes: Racing equalise with a composed finish inside the box after a period of sustained pressure.
• 76 minutes: Viveiro strike the post from a set-piece, inches away from restoring their advantage.
• 89 minutes: Racing clear a goalmouth scramble as both sides push for a late winner.

Tactical story

Viveiro CF set up with an energetic pressing approach, looking to win the ball back quickly in the middle third and spring forward through the channels. That worked well in the first half, but as the game opened up, Racing Villalbes found more space between the lines. The visitors’ midfield began to dictate possession after the interval, and their equaliser came from exactly that kind of controlled spell. Viveiro, to their credit, remained positive and finished the stronger of the two sides without finding a second goal.

Standout performers

Viveiro’s right-sided attacker was a constant outlet and played a key role in the opening goal. For Racing, the central midfielder who drove his team forward in the second half deserved credit for turning the momentum of the match. Both goalkeepers also made important saves at key moments, ensuring the game remained level.

What the point means

The draw keeps both teams in the tightly packed middle section of the Tercera División RFEF table. Viveiro will feel they did enough to win it, while Racing Villalbes will take confidence from their second-half response. With the season still young, this was a useful reminder of how competitive the division can be — and a point that could look valuable come the final weeks of the campaign.
