Viveiro CF 0-1 Atletico Arteixo: Single Goal Settles Tight Tercera División Clash

Atletico Arteixo claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory away at Viveiro CF in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on Sunday, 20 September 2026. The only goal of the game came in the second half, and it was enough to separate two sides who cancelled each other out for long periods in a tense, tactical encounter.

The match, played at Viveiro’s home ground, was a classic fifth-tier battle: physical, cagey, and decided by a single moment of quality. Atletico Arteixo’s disciplined defensive display and clinical finishing proved the difference, leaving Viveiro to reflect on a game they largely controlled without reward.

Match Overview

Viveiro CF started the brighter of the two teams, enjoying the majority of possession and forcing a series of early corners. Their midfield trio looked to move the ball quickly, switching play from side to side in an attempt to stretch the Atletico Arteixo defence. However, the visitors held their shape well, with their back four sitting deep and their midfielders screening the space in front of the penalty area.

Despite Viveiro’s territorial dominance, clear-cut chances were rare. The best opportunity of the first half fell to the home side’s striker, who latched onto a through ball but dragged his shot wide of the far post. Atletico Arteixo, meanwhile, looked dangerous on the counter and tested the Viveiro goalkeeper with a low drive from distance.

The second half followed a similar pattern, but Atletico Arteixo began to grow in confidence. Their persistence paid off in the 67th minute when a quick break down the right flank resulted in a low cross that was converted at the near post. It was a goal born from patience and precision.

Key Moments

• 34’ – Viveiro chance: The home striker breaks through but pulls his shot wide.
• 51’ – Atletico Arteixo warning: A long-range effort forces a diving save from the Viveiro goalkeeper.
• 67’ – Atletico Arteixo goal: A fast counter-attack ends with a close-range finish after a dangerous right-wing cross.
• 89’ – Viveiro late pressure: A goalmouth scramble is cleared off the line by an Atletico Arteixo defender.

Tactical Story

Viveiro CF lined up in a 4-3-3, looking to use their wingers to stretch the play and deliver crosses into the box. However, Atletico Arteixo’s full-backs defended narrow, forcing Viveiro’s wide players into less dangerous areas. The home side’s central striker was often isolated against two physical centre-backs, making it difficult to hold up the ball.

Atletico Arteixo set up in a 4-4-2 with a deep defensive block, conceding possession but remaining compact. Their two forwards worked hard to press the Viveiro centre-backs, and their midfielders were quick to close down shooting lanes. The winning goal came from a rare moment when they committed bodies forward, and it proved decisive.

Standout Performers

Atletico Arteixo’s goalkeeper was the hero of the day, making three important saves to keep a clean sheet. The goalscorer, a lively forward, caused problems all afternoon with his movement and pace. For Viveiro, the central midfielder was their standout player, constantly demanding the ball and trying to unlock the defence, but he lacked support in the final third.

League Impact

The victory gives Atletico Arteixo a valuable three points on the road, strengthening their position in the Tercera División RFEF table. Viveiro CF, meanwhile, remain in search of their first home win of the season. In a division where away wins are precious, Atletico Arteixo’s ability to grind out results will serve them well as the campaign progresses.
