Unión Langreo 3-2 CD Praviano — a five-goal Asturian thriller decided by a late strike at the Estadio Nuevo Ganzábal, where the hosts edged a fiercely contested Tercera División RFEF Group 2 derby in front of a vocal home crowd.

Match Overview

The meeting between Unión Langreo and CD Praviano had all the ingredients of a classic regional rivalry: two clubs separated by little more than an hour's drive, both desperate for points in a tightly packed Tercera División RFEF Group 2 table, and a ground that has traditionally been one of the toughest places in Asturias for visiting sides to take anything from. What followed was an open, end-to-end contest that swung one way and then the other before the home side finally imposed themselves in the closing stages.

Langreo lined up in their familiar 4-2-3-1, looking to dominate possession through the middle and spring their wide players into space. Praviano, by contrast, arrived with a compact 4-4-2 and a clear plan: sit narrow, deny the central corridor, and punish mistakes with quick, direct counter-attacks. The contrast in styles produced a genuinely absorbing game rather than the cagey affair derbies sometimes become.

First Half: Early Pressure and a Quick Response

Langreo started the brighter of the two sides, pressing high and forcing Praviano into a series of hurried clearances. The opening goal arrived inside the first fifteen minutes, when a patient build-up down the right ended with a low cross into the box that Diego Ferreiro converted from close range, sending the home support into full voice. It was the kind of goal Langreo's coaching staff have been demanding all season — patient, structured, and finished with conviction.

Rather than folding, Praviano responded impressively. Their midfield duo began winning second balls and the visitors grew into the contest, drawing level midway through the half when Sergio Peláez latched onto a loose clearance at the edge of the area and drilled a precise effort into the bottom corner. The equaliser changed the mood of the game entirely, and for a spell it was Praviano who looked the more composed team.

Langreo restored their advantage shortly before the interval. A well-worked set piece from the left was flicked on at the near post, and Marcos Cueto arrived at the back post to turn the ball home. Going into the break 2-1 up, the hosts knew they had been given a warning: Praviano were not going to lie down.

Key Moments

• 12' — Diego Ferreiro opens the scoring for Langreo after a slick move down the right flank.
• 31' — Sergio Peláez equalises for Praviano with a drilled effort from the edge of the box.
• 43' — Marcos Cueto restores the Langreo lead from a near-post flick-on at a corner.
• 58' — Praviano level again through Adrián Busto after a rapid counter-attack.
• 84' — Javi Villa wins it for Langreo with a composed finish inside the area.

Second Half: Praviano Fight Back Again

The visitors came out after the interval with renewed intent and equalised for a second time on 58 minutes. A turnover in midfield released the Praviano attack at speed, and Adrián Busto finished calmly after a clever cut-back from the byline. At 2-2, with more than half an hour still to play, the game became stretched and increasingly frantic, with both benches aware that a single moment of quality would likely decide the outcome.

Langreo's goalkeeper produced the save of the match with a quarter of an hour remaining, tipping a rising drive over the crossbar to keep the scores level. It proved decisive. Minutes later, Langreo worked the ball patiently into the final third once more, and Javi Villa found space between the centre-backs to slot home the winning goal and spark wild celebrations around the Nuevo Ganzábal.

Tactical Story

The match was ultimately decided in midfield. Langreo's double pivot controlled the tempo for long periods, repeatedly switching play to isolate Praviano's full-backs in one-on-one situations. Praviano's best moments came from transitions, and both of their goals originated from Langreo losing possession in advanced areas — a recurring issue the home coaching staff will want to address despite the win.

What separated the teams was composure in the final third. Langreo created fewer clear chances than their possession share might suggest, but they were ruthless when it mattered, converting three of their most presentable openings. Praviano, meanwhile, will feel they deserved at least a point after twice battling back from a goal down.
