UE Vilassar de Mar 0-2 CF Badalona: Away Side Take the Derby Spoils in Tercera Federación

CF Badalona claimed a hard-fought 2-0 away win over UE Vilassar de Mar in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF. Two second-half goals settled a tense local derby and gave Badalona a valuable three points in their push at the top end of the table.

Vilassar de Mar made it difficult for long periods, defending in numbers and looking to frustrate their more decorated opponents. But Badalona's patience and superior quality in the final third eventually told, with two well-crafted goals after the break.

Match Overview

The first half was a cagey affair, with both sides aware of the derby atmosphere. Vilassar de Mar sat deep in a compact 4-4-2, inviting Badalona to break them down. Badalona dominated possession but struggled to find gaps, often resorting to crosses that were comfortably defended.

The game changed in the second half when Badalona increased the tempo and began to attack the channels more directly. The breakthrough came from a set-piece routine, and the second goal arrived after a slick passing move cut through Vilassar's tired defence. The home side pushed late for a consolation, but Badalona managed the closing stages professionally.

Key Moments

• 51' – Vilassar de Mar 0-1: Álex Sánchez heads home from a corner, breaking the deadlock.
• 84' – Vilassar de Mar 0-2: Sergi García finishes a flowing move, slotting past the goalkeeper.
• 90+2' – Vilassar de Mar chance: A late free-kick is tipped over as Badalona preserve their clean sheet.

Tactical Story

Badalona's 4-3-3 relied on patient circulation and overlapping full-backs. In the first half, Vilassar's low block limited space, but Badalona's coach adjusted at half-time, encouraging more direct runs behind the defence. That shift stretched the home side and created the space for both goals.

Vilassar de Mar's defensive discipline was admirable, but their lack of possession meant their forwards were isolated. When they did win the ball, they looked to counter quickly, yet Badalona's rest defence was well organised. The difference was Badalona's ability to sustain pressure and convert chances.

Standout Players

Álex Sánchez was the match-winner with his towering header and all-round defensive work. Sergi García added the killer second and was a constant threat with his movement. Badalona's goalkeeper made a crucial late save to secure the clean sheet.

For Vilassar de Mar, their centre-backs performed bravely under pressure, and their goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score respectable. But the team lacked a consistent outlet going forward.

Tercera División RFEF Table Impact

The win lifts CF Badalona into a stronger position in the Tercera Federación standings, keeping them in the hunt for promotion play-off places. For UE Vilassar de Mar, the defeat leaves them needing points in the coming weeks to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle.

Derby results can shape a season, and Badalona will take confidence from a disciplined away performance. Vilassar de Mar, meanwhile, must regroup and find more attacking threat if they are to climb the table.
