UDC Txantrea KKE and CD Cortes played out a hard-fought 0-0 draw in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on October 9, 2026. The match, played at the Estadio Txantrea in Pamplona, was a tactical battle that saw both defenses come out on top.

Match Overview

In a game of few clear chances, Txantrea and Cortes cancelled each other out. The hosts started brightly, with winger Aitor Zabaleta forcing a fine save from Cortes goalkeeper Sergio López in the 14th minute. Cortes responded with a couple of long-range efforts that failed to trouble the Txantrea goalkeeper. The second half was more of the same, with both midfields cancelling each other out. Txantrea came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 73rd minute when striker Mikel Arrieta hit the post from a narrow angle. Cortes had a golden opportunity in the 88th minute, but Iker Monreal's header was cleared off the line by Txantrea defender Unai Etxeberria. A late flurry of corners for Txantrea came to nothing, and the referee blew for full time with the score level.

Key Moments

• 14' – Aitor Zabaleta's curling effort is tipped over by Sergio López.
• 38' – Cortes' Javi Gómez shoots just wide from 20 yards.
• 73' – Mikel Arrieta hits the post for Txantrea.
• 88' – Iker Monreal's header is cleared off the line by Unai Etxeberria.
• 90+2' – Txantrea's final corner is headed over by captain Ander Larrea.

Tactical Analysis

Txantrea lined up in a 4-4-2 formation, looking to use the width of their wingers to stretch Cortes. However, Cortes deployed a stubborn 5-3-2 system that frustrated the hosts. The visitors sat deep, allowing Txantrea possession but limiting space in behind. Cortes' game plan was to hit on the break, and they nearly succeeded with a few quick counters. Txantrea's midfield duo of Larrea and Etxeberria worked tirelessly but struggled to find a killer pass. In the end, a draw was a fair result for two well-organized sides.

Standout Players

Sergio López (CD Cortes) – The goalkeeper made two crucial saves, including a fine stop from Zabaleta, to keep a clean sheet.

Unai Etxeberria (UDC Txantrea KKE) – The defender was a rock at the back and provided the vital goal-line clearance. He also stepped into midfield to distribute effectively.

Iker Monreal (CD Cortes) – The striker was a handful for the Txantrea defense, holding the ball up well and nearly scoring the winner.

Season Impact

Both teams move up one place in the Tercera División RFEF Group 15 table, with Txantrea sitting in eighth and Cortes in tenth. The point keeps both sides within touching distance of the playoff places, but also leaves them looking over their shoulders at the relegation zone. With the season still in its early stages, both managers will view this as a point gained rather than two dropped. Txantrea will look to return to winning ways next week, while Cortes will be pleased with their defensive resilience on the road.
