UD Tomares 2-0 Córdoba B: Clinical Hosts Secure Clean-Sheet Win

UD Tomares earned a well-organised 2-0 win over Córdoba B in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on Sunday, 20 September 2026. The 18:00 fixture saw Tomares combine patience in possession with two decisive finishes, while Córdoba B were left to rue their failure to convert pressure into goals.

Match Overview

Tomares started the game with a clear plan: stay compact, deny space between the lines and attack quickly when Córdoba B lost the ball. The visitors saw plenty of possession in the first half, but most of it came in harmless areas. Tomares’ back four held its shape, and the midfield worked hard to block passing lanes.

After taking the lead, Tomares grew in confidence. Córdoba B tried to respond with more width and crosses, but the home defence remained resolute. A second goal midway through the second half effectively settled the match.

Key Moments

• 27th minute: Rafa Moreno scored the opener with a first-time finish after a low cross from the left.
• 52nd minute: Córdoba B hit the post from a free-kick, their best chance of the match.
• 68th minute: Sergio Cano doubled Tomares’ lead, finishing a rapid counterattack.
• 85th minute: Tomares goalkeeper Andrés Vega made a strong save to preserve the clean sheet.

Córdoba B’s young side showed promise in possession, but they lacked a cutting edge. Tomares, by contrast, were efficient and took their chances at the perfect moments.

Tactical Story

UD Tomares lined up in a disciplined 4-4-2 that dropped into a 4-5-1 without the ball. Their wide midfielders tracked back diligently, forcing Córdoba B to play through the middle, where the centre-backs were waiting. When possession was won, Tomares looked to release their strikers quickly.

Córdoba B tried to build from the back and dominate the ball, but their tempo was often too slow. They struggled to break down Tomares’ low block and became vulnerable to counters. The second goal was a textbook example of Tomares’ game plan: a turnover, three passes and a finish.

Standout Players

Rafa Moreno was lively throughout and took his goal well. Sergio Cano provided the decisive second and worked selflessly for the team. In defence, Andrés Vega kept a clean sheet and made a crucial late save, while captain Javier Núñez organised the back line with authority.

For Córdoba B, midfielder Álvaro Mena tried to dictate play and was involved in most of their better moves. The young striker Iker Salas showed good movement but was starved of quality service.

Table and Season Impact

The three points lift UD Tomares in the Tercera División RFEF standings and reinforce their reputation as a tough team to beat at home. A clean sheet will be especially pleasing for the coaching staff, as defensive solidity is vital in a division full of tight matches.

Córdoba B remain a work in progress, which is expected for a reserve side focused on development. They will take lessons from the game, particularly the need to turn possession into chances. Tomares, meanwhile, can enjoy a job well done and look ahead with confidence.
