Selaya FC edged a five-goal thriller on home soil, defeating CD Naval 3-2 in a Spanish Tercera División RFEF encounter that swung one way then the other before the hosts finally seized control. It was the kind of match that rewards attacking courage and punishes defensive hesitation in equal measure, and the home supporters were treated to a genuinely entertaining afternoon.

Match Overview

Selaya began with intent, pushing high up the pitch and looking to pin CD Naval inside their own half. The early pressure paid off, and the hosts took the lead with a well-constructed move that cut through the visiting defence. Naval responded positively, though, equalising with a sharp finish of their own and briefly unsettling the home side's rhythm.

The second half proved decisive. Selaya restored their advantage with a goal that came from a sustained period of pressure, only for Naval to hit back once more and set up a tense finale. Ultimately, the home side found the winning moment, and this time they held on.

Key Moments

• Opening goal: Selaya's early dominance was rewarded when a flowing move down the left ended with a confident finish.
• Naval's response: The visitors levelled against the run of play, punishing a momentary lapse in concentration at the back.
• The decisive spell: Two Selaya goals either side of a Naval equaliser created the game's most frantic passage of play.
• Final stand: With Naval pushing for a third equaliser, Selaya's defence held firm through a nervy period of stoppage time.

Tactical Story

Selaya's approach was built on width and quick combinations. Their wide players consistently got to the byline, and the midfield trio controlled the tempo for long stretches, ensuring the team rarely lost its shape even when Naval threatened on the break. The hosts' willingness to commit numbers forward was both their greatest strength and, at times, their biggest risk.

CD Naval showed real character to twice come from behind and will feel aggrieved not to have taken something from the game. Their counter-attacking was sharp and direct, and their finishing was clinical. But defensively they conceded too many quality chances, particularly from crosses into the box, and that ultimately proved decisive.

Standout Performers

The Selaya forward line deserves credit for sharing the goalscoring burden — a sign of a team that is not reliant on a single source of goals. In midfield, the link play and work rate set the platform for the win. CD Naval's attacking players were bright throughout, and their goalkeeper made several important stops to keep his side within touching distance, but the defensive unit will want to review the goals conceded closely.

Season Impact

Three points lift Selaya's momentum at an important stage of the Tercera División RFEF campaign, and home victories in tight matches are exactly what separates teams pushing for the playoff places from those scrapping in mid-table. The manner of the win — responding to setbacks and closing the game out — suggests a squad with growing maturity.

For CD Naval, the defeat is a frustrating one. Narrow away losses can be quickly forgotten if results improve at home, but the club will be conscious that conceding three goals on the road makes life difficult in a division where clean sheets are currency. Both sides now turn their attention to the next round of fixtures with plenty to reflect on.
