SD Beasain 1-1 Real Union Irun B: Basque Rivals Share the Spoils in Tercera División RFEF

SD Beasain and Real Union Irun B played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF, with both sides taking a point from a match full of local rivalry and tactical discipline. Beasain will feel they did enough to win, while Real Union Irun B will point to their resilience and second-half response.

The game was decided by two contrasting spells: Beasain’s controlled first-half pressure and Irun B’s improved intensity after the interval. In the end, neither side could find a winning goal, leaving both with something to build on and a sense of unfinished business.

Match overview

Beasain began brightly, pressing high and forcing Irun B into several hurried clearances. Their reward came midway through the first half when a patient passing move opened space on the edge of the box and a low finish gave the home side the lead. For a period after that goal, Beasain looked the more likely side to score again, with their midfield dictating the rhythm.

Real Union Irun B responded well after the break. The visitors pushed their wingers higher, pressed more aggressively in midfield and began to win second balls. Their equaliser came from exactly that kind of pressure: a quick turnover, a forward pass and a composed finish that beat the Beasain goalkeeper. The final 20 minutes were open, but both defences held firm.

Key moments

• Beasain’s opener: A measured build-up ended with a shot from the edge of the area that found the bottom corner.
• Irun B’s response: A sharp save from the Beasain goalkeeper kept the lead intact just before half-time.
• The equaliser: Irun B won the ball in midfield and moved it quickly to the forward, who finished calmly.
• Late chances: Both teams had half-chances from set pieces in the final minutes, but neither could find a winner.

Tactical story

Beasain’s approach was built on possession and patient circulation. Their deep-lying midfielder repeatedly dropped to collect the ball, allowing the full-backs to push forward and create width. The home side tried to isolate Irun B’s defenders in wide areas, but the visitors defended their box well for long stretches.

Real Union Irun B’s strength was their compact mid-block. They conceded territory at times but stayed close together, making it difficult for Beasain to play through the centre. Their equaliser came from the kind of transition moment they had been waiting for all game. The tactical battle was even, and a draw was a fair reflection of the contest.

Standout players

Beasain’s midfield playmaker was central to their best attacking moves, linking defence and attack with intelligent passing. The goalkeeper also made a crucial save in the first half. For Irun B, the goalkeeper was busy and reliable, while the winger who drove the second-half comeback caused constant problems with direct running.

Table impact

The point keeps both teams moving in the Tercera División RFEF table, though Beasain may feel it was two dropped at home. Irun B will take confidence from their response and their ability to compete away from home. In a division where small margins matter, this draw could look more valuable at the end of the season than it does right now.
