Santomera claimed a solid 2-0 victory over CD Algar in their Spanish Tercera División RFEF clash on Monday, with a goal in each half securing all three points at Estadio El Chopillo. The home side were dominant from the opening whistle and never looked in danger of dropping points against a struggling Algar side.

Match Overview

Santomera started brightly and took the lead in the 23rd minute when Javier Marín latched onto a through ball and slotted past the goalkeeper. CD Algar struggled to keep possession, and their defensive approach invited pressure. Santomera doubled their lead in the 78th minute through substitute Álvaro Martínez, who finished calmly after a quick counter-attack. The visitors rarely threatened, managing only a couple of half-chances.

Key Moments

• 23' – Javier Marín opens the scoring for Santomera with a composed finish.
• 45+2' – Algar's best chance of the first half, a header that goes wide.
• 78' – Álvaro Martínez seals the win with a low strike into the bottom corner.
• 90' – Santomera see out the game comfortably to claim a clean sheet.

Tactical Story

Santomera set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, pressing high and forcing Algar into errors. The midfield duo of Rubén and Sergio controlled the tempo, while the full-backs pushed forward to create width. Algar, meanwhile, sat deep in a 5-4-1, hoping to hit on the break, but their isolation of the lone striker made it easy for the home defence to snuff out attacks. Once Santomera scored the second, the game was effectively over.

Standout Players

Javier Marín was lively throughout, not just for his goal but also for his movement and link-up play. Álvaro Martínez made an instant impact off the bench, and goalkeeper Alejandro kept a clean sheet with a couple of routine saves. For Algar, centre-back Pablo was their best performer, making several clearances and interceptions.

Table and Season Impact

The three points lift Santomera into mid-table security, giving them momentum ahead of a tough run of fixtures. For CD Algar, the defeat leaves them rooted in the lower reaches of the table, and they will need to find goals quickly to climb away from danger. This result extends Santomera's unbeaten home run and piles pressure on Algar's manager.
