Real Union Irun B 3-3 Leioa — a Basque derby in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF delivered a breathless six-goal draw on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Real Union Irun B and Leioa traded blows throughout the night, with neither side able to hold onto a lead for long in a match that showcased the attacking talent and competitive edge of Group 4.

Match overview

The 22:00 kick-off produced immediate intensity, as both teams pressed high and looked to play forward quickly. Real Union Irun B, the reserve side of historic Basque club Real Unión, started brightly and took an early advantage through a well-timed run into the box. Leioa, however, responded with composure, equalising before the break and then taking the lead shortly after half-time.

What followed was a see-saw second half. Irun B levelled twice, including a late equaliser that sparked wild celebrations, but Leioa will feel they did enough to win. In the end, a share of the points was a fair reflection of a contest in which both defences struggled to contain the opposition’s movement and direct running.

Key moments

• Early breakthrough: Real Union Irun B opened the scoring with a low drive from the edge of the area after a short corner routine.
• Leioa response: The visitors equalised with a header from a deep cross, catching the home defence flat-footed.
• Second-half swing: Leioa took the lead for the first time early in the second half, finishing off a rapid counter-attack.
• Late drama: Irun B equalised twice in the final 20 minutes, the last coming from a powerful strike that left the goalkeeper with no chance.

Tactical story

Real Union Irun B lined up with a young, energetic midfield that looked to press aggressively and force turnovers in the opposition half. Their overlapping full-backs caused problems, but the commitment to attack left space behind for Leioa to exploit. Leioa, more experienced and tactically disciplined, sat in a compact 4-4-2 and looked to break at speed through their front two.

The game became a battle of transitions. Every time Irun B lost the ball in the final third, Leioa were able to launch a direct attack within seconds. Conversely, when Leioa tried to slow the tempo, Irun B’s persistent pressing won the ball back in dangerous areas. Neither manager could fully solve the tactical puzzle, which is why the goals kept coming.

Standout players

For Real Union Irun B, the attacking midfielder was the creative spark, involved in two of the three goals and constantly finding pockets of space between the lines. The centre-forward also worked tirelessly, holding the ball up and bringing others into play. Leioa’s two strikers were a constant menace, with their link-up play and clinical finishing keeping the home defence on edge for the full 90 minutes.

What the result means

The draw leaves both sides with mixed emotions. Real Union Irun B showed character to come from behind, but dropping two points at home in a derby is always frustrating. Leioa, meanwhile, will point to their attacking output as evidence they can challenge at the top end of the Tercera División RFEF Group 4 table. With the season still young, this result could prove an important reference point when the promotion race heats up later in the campaign.
