CD Estradense secured a valuable 2-1 away victory over Racing Villalbes in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on Sunday night. The visitors came from a goal down to claim all three points, showing character and clinical finishing in a match that was decided by fine margins.

Match Overview

Played at the Campo Municipal de Vilalba, this Galician derby had a lively atmosphere despite the late 23:00 kick-off. Racing Villalbes, known for their strong home record, started the brighter of the two sides. They pressed high and forced Estradense into early mistakes. The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute when Iago López seized on a defensive error and calmly finished past the goalkeeper to give Racing a 1-0 lead. The home fans celebrated, but their joy was short-lived. Estradense responded well, gradually gaining a foothold in midfield and creating chances of their own before the break.

Key Moments

The equalizer arrived in the 38th minute. Estradense won a corner on the right, and the delivery was met by the head of Pablo Carreira, who powered the ball into the net. That goal changed the momentum of the game. Early in the second half, Estradense completed the turnaround. In the 54th minute, Brais Rodríguez found space on the edge of the box, took a touch to set himself, and curled a delightful shot into the far corner. Racing Villalbes pushed hard for an equalizer, throwing men forward and forcing several corners. Their best chance came in the 78th minute when a header from Diego Fernández hit the crossbar. Estradense defended resolutely in the closing stages, clearing everything that came their way to secure the win.

Tactical Story

Racing Villalbes set up in a 4-4-2, looking to use their physicality and direct play to unsettle Estradense. Their early goal came from pressing high and capitalizing on a mistake. However, after taking the lead, they sat back too deep, inviting pressure. Estradense, playing a 4-3-3, controlled possession after the first 20 minutes. Their midfield trio of Brais Rodríguez, Martinho, and Uxío dictated the tempo, and their full-backs pushed high to create overloads. The winning goal came from a clever rotation that pulled Racing's defense out of shape. In the final 15 minutes, Estradense switched to a 5-4-1 to protect their lead, and it worked perfectly.

Standout Players

Brais Rodríguez was the standout performer for Estradense, not only scoring the winner but also driving his team forward with intelligent passing. Pablo Carreira was a rock at the back and popped up with the crucial equalizer. For Racing Villalbes, Iago López took his goal well and was a constant threat in the first half. Goalkeeper Álex Vila made several important saves to keep the score close. However, Racing's defense will be disappointed with the goals conceded, especially the second, where they failed to close down the shooter.

Table and Season Impact

This win lifts Estradense into a more comfortable position in the Tercera RFEF table, keeping them in touch with the promotion places. For Racing Villalbes, it's a missed opportunity to climb the standings, especially given their strong start. The defeat highlights the need to maintain concentration for the full 90 minutes. Both teams have a quick turnaround, with midweek fixtures on the horizon. Estradense will look to build on this momentum, while Racing Villalbes will aim to bounce back and avoid a losing streak. In a league where every point matters, this result could have significant implications come the end of the season.
