Pontevedra CF B produced a disciplined and mature performance to edge past CD Arenteiro 1-0 in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on Sunday evening. A single goal was enough to settle a hard-fought Galician contest, and the result handed the reserve side a valuable three points against one of the more established names in the division.

The match was never likely to be a free-scoring affair. Both teams arrived with strong defensive foundations, and the opening exchanges were characterised by compact blocks, careful build-up play and a series of robust midfield duels. What separated the sides in the end was a moment of quality in front of goal and Pontevedra CF B's ability to protect their advantage under late pressure.

Match Overview

Pontevedra CF B started with energy and intent, pressing Arenteiro's defenders high and forcing several hurried clearances in the opening twenty minutes. The hosts looked the more comfortable side in possession, circulating the ball patiently and looking to overload the flanks.

Arenteiro, for their part, grew into the game as the half wore on. Their midfield began to find pockets of space between the lines, and they created a couple of half-chances from set pieces. But clear-cut opportunities remained rare, with both goalkeepers largely untroubled before the interval.

Key Moments

• 27th minute: Pontevedra CF B's best early chance, a curling effort from the edge of the box drifting just wide of the far post.
• 41st minute: Arenteiro's centre-back rises highest from a corner but heads over the bar.
• 56th minute: The decisive goal arrives. A quick exchange of passes on the right opens up the Arenteiro defence, and the resulting low cross is turned in at the near post.
• 72nd minute: Arenteiro push bodies forward and force a smart save from the Pontevedra goalkeeper with a shot from distance.
• 86th minute: The visitors' last real opportunity, a header from a deep free-kick, is cleared off the line by a covering defender.

Tactical Story

Pontevedra CF B's game plan was built on control and patience. They kept a compact defensive shape, pressed intelligently in midfield and looked to create chances through combination play rather than long, hopeful balls. Their wingers stayed wide to stretch the Arenteiro back line, while the full-backs supported selectively to avoid being caught out on the counter.

Arenteiro's response was to try to dominate the ball and pin their opponents back. They enjoyed longer spells of possession in the second half, particularly after conceding, but struggled to break down a well-organised defensive unit. Their best moments came from set pieces and second balls, which Pontevedra defended with concentration and physical commitment right until the final whistle.

Standout Performers

The match-winner will take the headlines, and deservedly so, but the foundation of the result was laid by the Pontevedra CF B midfield, which repeatedly won the ball back and used it efficiently. The goalkeeper also delivered a composed display, handling crosses confidently and making one important second-half save when the game was still finely balanced.

For Arenteiro, the central defender was their most consistent performer, winning headers and stepping out of the back line to intercept danger. Their captain drove the team forward in the closing stages, but the visitors were unable to find the equaliser their pressure arguably warranted.

What the Result Means

Three points lift Pontevedra CF B's confidence and reinforce their reputation as a well-drilled, hard-to-beat outfit in the Tercera División RFEF. For Arenteiro, it is a frustrating evening, a narrow defeat in a match where the margins were always likely to be small. In a division where away form often decides the final standings, they will be keen to respond quickly.
