Vilanova Geltru claimed an impressive 3-2 away victory over Pobla De Mafumet CF in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on Sunday evening, winning a five-goal thriller that swung one way and then the other. The visitors showed character to come through a demanding away fixture with all three points.

Match Overview

The 18:00 kick-off brought together two sides familiar with the demands of the Tercera División RFEF, and the contest delivered everything the division is known for: intensity, physical duels and goals. Pobla De Mafumet, playing at home, twice threatened to take control, but Vilanova Geltru's attacking efficiency and resilience proved decisive.

Winning on the road in this division is never straightforward, and to do so in a match featuring five goals says much about the visitors' confidence going forward.

Key Moments

• Opening exchanges: Both teams started aggressively, with Pobla De Mafumet looking to use home advantage to dictate the tempo.
• Vilanova strike first: The visitors made the breakthrough, converting their early pressure into a lead.
• Hosts hit back: Pobla De Mafumet responded well, equalising and briefly appearing to have seized the momentum.
• Decisive spell: Vilanova Geltru scored at crucial moments to restore and then extend their advantage, putting them 3-2 ahead.
• Holding firm: The closing stages saw the visitors defend their lead with concentration and commitment to seal the win.

Tactical Story

Vilanova Geltru's success was built on quick, purposeful attacking play. They looked to move the ball forward rapidly after winning possession, catching Pobla De Mafumet in transitional moments before the home side's defensive block could reorganise.

Pobla De Mafumet enjoyed long spells of possession and created genuine chances of their own, scoring twice to keep the match alive until the final whistle. Their downfall was a tendency to leave space in behind when pushing players forward in search of goals — a risk that the visitors exploited with clinical effect.

The game served as a reminder of how fine the margins are in the Tercera División RFEF. Two well-matched teams produced a contest decided not by dominance, but by which side converted their key chances when the game was in the balance.

Standout Performers

Vilanova Geltru's forward players were effective and efficient, taking their opportunities at important moments to swing the match in their favour. Their defensive unit also deserves credit for holding firm under sustained late pressure.

Pobla De Mafumet's attacking players caused problems throughout and were rewarded with two goals, demonstrating the quality within the squad. Their challenge now is to pair that attacking output with greater defensive solidity.

Season Impact

The victory gives Vilanova Geltru a valuable three points and a confidence boost that could prove significant as the season progresses. Pobla De Mafumet, meanwhile, are left to reflect on a performance that produced goals and chances but ultimately no reward — a familiar frustration in a division where home defeats carry a heavy cost in the standings.
