Gazte Berriak edged past CD Cantolagua 1-0 in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on Sunday, 20 September 2026. A single first-half goal was enough to secure all three points in a closely contested encounter.

Match Overview

The match was a tactical battle from the first whistle, with both sides cautious in the opening exchanges. Gazte Berriak took the lead in the 34th minute against the run of play, capitalising on a quick counter-attack. Cantolagua dominated possession thereafter but struggled to create clear chances against a well-organised defence.

In the second half, Cantolagua pushed more players forward, but Gazte Berriak’s goalkeeper was in inspired form. The hosts defended with grit and determination, throwing bodies in front of shots to preserve their narrow advantage.

Tactical Story

Gazte Berriak set up in a 4-4-2, looking to stay compact and hit on the counter. Cantolagua played a 4-3-3, dominating the ball but lacking penetration. The hosts’ midfield worked tirelessly to close down space, forcing Cantolagua to play sideways.

Cantolagua’s full-backs pushed high in the second half, but their crosses were well defended. Gazte Berriak’s game plan was executed perfectly, as they soaked up pressure and nearly added a second on the break. The three points were built on defensive discipline and clinical finishing.

Standout Players

Gazte Berriak’s goalscorer was the difference-maker, taking his chance with composure. His pace and movement caused problems all afternoon.

The Gazte Berriak goalkeeper was equally important, making several key saves, including a breathtaking stop in stoppage time. In defence, the captain led by example, organising the back line and winning every aerial duel.

For Cantolagua, their central midfielder was the best player on the pitch, dictating play and creating chances, but he was left to rue his team’s wasteful finishing.

Table and Season Impact

This win gives Gazte Berriak a valuable three points, lifting them into a more comfortable position in the Tercera División RFEF. For CD Cantolagua, it is a frustrating result that leaves them looking over their shoulder. They must start converting possession into goals if they are to climb the table.

Gazte Berriak will take confidence from their defensive resilience, while Cantolagua need to find a cutting edge quickly.
