CF Pozuelo Alarcon claimed a disciplined 1-0 away win over Fuenlabrada in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on Saturday 17 October 2026, producing a compact defensive display and making the most of one decisive attacking moment. The result is a significant boost for Pozuelo and a frustrating evening for Fuenlabrada, who had more of the ball but lacked the finish to match their territory.

Match overview

Fuenlabrada set the tone early by dominating possession and pushing numbers forward through the wide areas. Pozuelo Alarcon, however, were content to defend in a narrow block and challenge Fuenlabrada to break them down through central areas. The visitors’ back line stayed disciplined, cleared crosses effectively and limited clear sights of goal during the opening half.

As the match progressed, Fuenlabrada became more impatient. Their passing remained tidy, but the final ball was often intercepted or overhit. Pozuelo grew in confidence from their defensive work and began to find more space on the counter-attack, eventually producing the moment that decided the match.

How the game unfolded

The first half was a story of Fuenlabrada possession without penetration. The home side moved the ball from side to side and won a few corners, but Pozuelo’s goalkeeper and central defenders dealt comfortably with most deliveries. At the other end, Pozuelo showed glimpses of danger on the break, though the opening 45 minutes ended without a goal.

After the interval, Fuenlabrada increased the tempo and committed more players forward. That left space for Pozuelo to exploit, and the visitors took advantage just before the hour mark. A quick transition ended with a low finish past the Fuenlabrada goalkeeper, giving Pozuelo the lead. The home side pushed hard for an equaliser, but a combination of rushed finishing, solid goalkeeping and last-ditch defending kept them out.

Key moments

• The breakthrough: Pozuelo Alarcon scored the only goal of the game in the second half after a fast counter-attack.
• Fuenlabrada pressure: The home side forced several corners and late crosses but could not find a telling touch.
• Goalkeeping resilience: Pozuelo’s goalkeeper made crucial saves in the closing stages to protect the lead.
• Disciplined defending: The away centre-backs dealt with Fuenlabrada’s aerial threat and cleared their lines under pressure.

Tactical talking points

Fuenlabrada’s main issue was the speed of their attacking play. They circulated the ball well but too often allowed Pozuelo to reset their defensive shape. Without sharp movement between the lines, the home side struggled to create clear chances and were forced into speculative efforts from distance.

Pozuelo Alarcon executed their game plan almost perfectly. Their midfield stayed compact, their wingers tracked back diligently and their forwards were willing runners in transition. The away side did not need much possession to win the match; they needed organisation, patience and one clean moment in front of goal, and they delivered all three.

Standout performers

Pozuelo’s goalkeeper was the obvious difference-maker late on, making two important saves as Fuenlabrada pushed for a leveller. The away centre-back pairing also deserved credit for their positioning and composure, while the goalscorer’s movement in transition proved decisive. For Fuenlabrada, the midfield controller kept the ball moving well, but the attacking line lacked the sharpness to turn control into goals.

What it means

The three points give Pozuelo Alarcon a timely lift and underline their ability to win difficult away matches in the Tercera División RFEF. For Fuenlabrada, the defeat is a reminder that possession alone does not win games; improving the quality of their final-third decisions will be essential. In a competitive regional division, narrow results like this can have a major influence on the standings as the season develops.
