FC Torrevieja 2-2 Atletico Saguntino: Late Equaliser Denies Hosts Victory

FC Torrevieja and Atletico Saguntino played out a 2-2 draw in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on 11 October 2026. Torrevieja twice took the lead, but a late equaliser from Lucas Mir rescued a point for the visitors in an entertaining, end-to-end contest.

The result leaves both sides with plenty to ponder. Torrevieja will feel they should have closed out the game after leading with less than five minutes remaining, while Saguntino will take credit for their persistence and fighting spirit.

Match Overview

Kick-off at 17:30 produced a lively opening, with Torrevieja looking to use home advantage and Saguntino happy to sit deep and counter. The hosts dominated possession early and were rewarded with the opening goal, but Saguntino responded well before half-time. The second half was more balanced, with both teams creating chances.

Torrevieja regained the lead midway through the second period and looked on course for all three points, only for Saguntino to find a late leveller that stunned the home crowd.

Key Moments

• 18th minute – 1-0 Torrevieja: Mateo Ferrer opened the scoring with a precise left-footed shot from just inside the penalty area after a neat build-up down the left.
• 42nd minute – 1-1 Saguntino: Adrián Poveda equalised for the visitors, latching onto a loose ball and firing low into the bottom corner.
• 67th minute – 2-1 Torrevieja: Diego Salinas restored the home side’s lead, heading in from close range after a well-delivered free-kick.
• 85th minute – 2-2 Saguntino: Lucas Mir made it 2-2 with a composed finish inside the box, pouncing on a defensive hesitation to score the equaliser.

Tactical Story

FC Torrevieja set up in a 4-3-3, looking to control the game through midfield and create chances from wide areas. Their full-backs joined the attack frequently, and the first goal came from exactly that pattern. However, their high line left them vulnerable to counterattacks, which Saguntino exploited for their first equaliser.

Atletico Saguntino used a 4-4-2 that became a 4-5-1 without the ball, aiming to frustrate Torrevieja and hit them on the break. Their discipline in the second half kept them in the game, and their late goal came from sustained pressure rather than a single moment of magic. It was a deserved point for the visitors, even if the timing was painful for the hosts.

Standout Players

Mateo Ferrer was Torrevieja’s most dangerous player, scoring one and creating several other chances. Diego Salinas impressed with his aerial threat and work rate, while the midfield trio controlled long spells of possession. For Saguntino, Adrián Poveda was influential in linking play and scoring the first equaliser, and Lucas Mir showed great composure for the late leveller.

What the Result Means

The draw keeps both teams in the mid-table mix of the Tercera División RFEF, with Torrevieja ruing two dropped points at home and Saguntino taking confidence from a resilient away performance. With the season still young, both sides will look to turn draws into wins as they aim to climb the standings.
