CyD Leonesa Jupiter Leones B claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over CD Calasanz de Soria in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF, with a late goal settling a match that had been balanced for long spells. The home side’s energy and willingness to push numbers forward eventually told, while Calasanz were left with a narrow defeat after an otherwise disciplined away performance.

Late winner settles a tight contest

Leonesa B started brightly and looked the more proactive side in the opening quarter. Their pressing forced Calasanz into several hurried clearances, and the breakthrough arrived when a quick move down the right created space for a low finish into the far corner. The goal gave the reserve side confidence, but Calasanz responded well by slowing the tempo and defending with greater compactness.

The equaliser came after the break, and it was no surprise that it arrived from a set piece. Calasanz delivered a dangerous ball into the box, and a flicked header left the goalkeeper with little chance. For a period after that, the game looked destined for a draw, with both teams cautious about committing too many players forward.

How the match unfolded

The decisive moment came in the closing stages. Leonesa B worked the ball patiently around the edge of the penalty area before a substitute delivered a cross that was turned home from close range. Calasanz pushed for a second equaliser in the final minutes, but the home defence stood firm and protected the three points.

• Opening goal: Leonesa B capitalised on a turnover and finished calmly from inside the box.
• Equaliser: Calasanz scored from a well-worked set piece early in the second half.
• Winner: A late cross was converted to give Leonesa B the victory.

Tactical talking points

Leonesa B’s high press was a feature throughout, especially in the first half. They tried to pin Calasanz deep and force mistakes in midfield, and the approach created enough turnovers to justify the risk. The home side also looked dangerous in wide areas, with their full-backs pushing high to support attacks.

Calasanz, by contrast, were more compact and looked to strike on the counter. Their equaliser showed their threat from dead balls, but they struggled to keep possession for long enough to relieve pressure. In the end, the home side’s greater urgency in the final third made the difference.

Standout performers

The Leonesa B midfield set the tone with relentless running and intelligent pressing. The substitute who provided the late assist also made a significant impact, adding fresh width and quality in the final minutes. For Calasanz, the goalkeeper made several important saves before the winner, while the centre-backs dealt with a large volume of crosses.

What the result means

The win gives Leonesa B another valuable three points in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF and reinforces their ability to grind out results at home. For Calasanz, the performance offered encouragement, but the result shows how costly small lapses can be in a division where margins are often narrow. The head-to-head remains tight, and both sides will take lessons from a contest decided by fine details.
