CFJ Mollerussa 1-1 UE Cornellà: Cornellà Held in Tercera División RFEF Stalemate

CFJ Mollerussa and UE Cornellà shared the points in a 1-1 draw in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on Sunday, 27 September 2026. The 18:00 fixture at Camp Municipal de Mollerussa was a tactical battle in which Cornellà's control of possession was matched by Mollerussa's defensive discipline.

Cornellà arrived as favourites and enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges, but they were unable to turn their dominance into a comfortable victory. Mollerussa's resilience earned them a creditable point and kept their unbeaten home record intact in the early weeks of the campaign.

Match Overview

UE Cornellà started brightly, moving the ball quickly through midfield and forcing Mollerussa into a deep defensive block. The visitors took the lead in the 38th minute when Javi Eslava arrived late in the box to head home a well-worked cross from the left.

Mollerussa responded with character rather than panic. They tightened up defensively after the break and began to find gaps on the counterattack. Their persistence was rewarded on 61 minutes when Marc Duran converted a penalty after a foul inside the area.

Both sides had chances to win it late on. Cornellà pushed numbers forward in search of a second goal, while Mollerussa nearly snatched a winner with a rapid breakaway. In the end, a draw was a fair reflection of a hard-fought contest.

Key Moments

• 38' – UE Cornellà 1-0: Javi Eslava headed in from close range after a precise cross.
• 61' – CFJ Mollerussa 1-1: Marc Duran sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from the penalty spot.
• 79' – Cornellà chance: A goal-bound effort was blocked on the line by a Mollerussa defender.
• 90+2' – Mollerussa counter: A late break ended with a shot flashing just wide of the far post.

Tactical Analysis

UE Cornellà lined up in a 4-3-3, looking to dominate midfield and create overloads in wide areas. Their passing was crisp, but they struggled to break down a well-organised Mollerussa defence that sat deep and protected the central corridor.

Mollerussa used a 5-4-1 defensive shape without the ball, inviting pressure before looking to spring forward on the counter. Their penalty came from one of those transitional moments, and their ability to frustrate Cornellà for long spells was the foundation of the result.

Standout Players

Mollerussa goalkeeper Pau Torres produced several important saves, particularly in the first half, to keep his side within touching distance. His command of the penalty area gave the defenders confidence throughout.

For Cornellà, Javi Eslava was the standout performer. His goal was taken expertly, and his movement in the final third caused problems all afternoon. However, he lacked the same level of service in the second half as Mollerussa tightened their marking.

Season Impact

Cornellà will view this as two points dropped in their pursuit of the promotion places. They remain among the stronger sides in the division, but away draws against resilient opponents can prove costly over the course of a long season.

Mollerussa, by contrast, will take great encouragement from the result. A point against one of the league's established names adds credibility to their campaign and strengthens their position in the mid-table battle.
