CE Mercadal 0-2 Porreres: Visitors Claim Balearic Derby Spoils in Tercera RFEF

Porreres produced a composed away performance to beat CE Mercadal 2-0 in Spanish Tercera División RFEF action on 24 October 2026. The visitors scored once in each half at the Municipal de Sant Martí, combining disciplined defending with sharp finishing to take all three points from a competitive Balearic encounter.

The result gave Porreres a valuable road win and left Mercadal reflecting on a match in which they saw plenty of the ball but struggled to turn possession into clear chances. In a league where away victories are often hard-earned, Porreres’ ability to defend their box and strike at key moments proved decisive.

Match Overview

Mercadal started with intent, pushing their full-backs high and looking to create overloads in wide areas. Porreres, however, were content to sit in a compact mid-block and attack through quick transitions. That approach paid off midway through the first half when a turnover in midfield allowed the visitors to break quickly and open the scoring with a low finish.

The home side responded with more possession and a handful of promising deliveries into the penalty area, but Porreres’ centre-backs dealt well with crosses and second balls. Mercadal’s best spell came just before half-time, when they forced two corners in quick succession and tested the visiting goalkeeper from distance.

After the restart, Mercadal continued to probe, but Porreres managed the game intelligently. The visitors dropped deeper without becoming passive and looked dangerous on the counter. Their second goal arrived in the final quarter of the match, effectively ending Mercadal’s hopes of a comeback.

Key Moments

• First-half opener: Porreres capitalised on a loose pass and finished a fast break with a calm strike into the corner.
• Goalkeeping resistance: The Porreres goalkeeper made two important saves while the score was still 1-0, including a strong stop from a header.
• Late clincher: A second-half counter-attack ended with a composed finish that put the visitors 2-0 ahead.
• Late pressure: Mercadal pushed bodies forward in the closing stages, but Porreres defended their box with discipline.

Tactical Story

Mercadal’s game plan was built around control and width. Their midfield looked to circulate the ball and bring the wide players into one-on-one situations, but Porreres’ defensive shape made it difficult to find central penetration. The hosts often had to settle for crosses from deeper positions, which suited the away side’s tall back line.

Porreres, by contrast, were happy to concede possession in less dangerous areas. Their midfield stayed compact, their front players pressed at the right moments, and their back four defended the penalty area well. The visitors also showed good game management after taking the lead, slowing the tempo when needed and choosing their moments to counter.

Standout Performers

Porreres’ goalkeeper was among the most influential figures on the pitch, making key saves before the second goal arrived. The central defensive pairing also deserved credit for limiting Mercadal’s clear-cut chances, while the midfield worked tirelessly to close down space in front of the back four.

For Mercadal, the attacking midfielder was the side’s most creative outlet, repeatedly looking to link play and find pockets between the lines. The full-backs offered energy going forward, but the home side lacked the final touch in the box.

What It Means

The win strengthens Porreres’ position in the middle of the Tercera RFEF Group 11 table and adds another positive result to their away record. For Mercadal, the defeat is a reminder that control without penetration can be costly in a division defined by fine margins. Both sides will now turn their attention to the next round of fixtures, with Porreres looking to build momentum and Mercadal aiming to convert possession into goals.
