CD Pradejon and CD Varea played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on Sunday, September 20, 2026, with both sides taking a share of the points after a tense and evenly matched contest. The result leaves both teams still searching for consistency in the early weeks of the season, though each will take positives from the performance.

Match Overview

The 23:00 kick-off at the Estadio La Isla brought together two clubs from La Rioja with contrasting ambitions. Pradejon, on home soil, wanted to make their possession count and push towards the upper half of the table. Varea, known for their organised defensive structure, arrived determined to frustrate and hit on the break. That tactical battle played out almost exactly as expected, with chances at a premium and the game decided by two moments of quality.

Key Moments

• 18th minute – Varea strike first: Against the run of play, Varea won the ball in midfield and launched a quick counter. A through ball split the Pradejon defence, and the striker finished calmly past the goalkeeper to make it 0-1.
• 35th minute – Pradejon respond: The home side nearly equalised when a header from a corner clipped the top of the crossbar.
• 62nd minute – Pradejon equalise: After sustained pressure, Pradejon finally broke through. A clever flick released the right winger, whose low cross was turned in at the near post to make it 1-1.
• 79th minute – Varea nearly win it: A free-kick from 20 yards forced a full-stretch save from the Pradejon goalkeeper, who tipped the ball around the post.

Tactical Story

Pradejon controlled the ball for long spells, building patiently from the back and looking to overload the flanks. Varea, by contrast, were content to defend in a compact 4-4-2, inviting pressure and then springing forward with direct passes. The equaliser came from exactly the kind of wide combination Pradejon had been attempting all evening. Varea’s defensive discipline earned them a point, but they will feel they could have taken all three on the counter.

Standout Players

Pradejon’s central midfielder was instrumental in keeping the tempo high, completing a series of line-breaking passes. Their right winger was a constant threat and provided the assist for the equaliser. For Varea, the goalkeeper was their standout performer, making three important saves, while the lone striker’s movement and finishing gave the Pradejon defence problems throughout.

Table and Season Impact

The draw keeps CD Pradejon in mid-table, with their unbeaten home record intact but their inability to turn dominance into wins still a concern. CD Varea remain level on points with their hosts, and the away point will be seen as a solid result given the balance of play. Both sides will look to build on this performance in their next Tercera División RFEF fixtures, knowing that consistency is the key to breaking into the promotion conversation.
