UD Aretxabaleta claimed local bragging rights with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over CD Lagun Onak in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on October 3, 2026. In a tense Basque derby, the visitors produced a disciplined away performance and punished their hosts with two well-taken goals.

The result adds extra spice to the regional rivalry and gives Aretxabaleta a valuable three points in the race for a favorable league position.

Match Overview

Lagun Onak began the match with more possession, dictating the tempo through short passes in midfield. However, Aretxabaleta were compact and dangerous on the counter. Against the run of play, the visitors took the lead in the 23rd minute when Jokin Larrañaga cut inside from the right and curled a left-footed shot into the far corner.

Lagun Onak equalized in the 58th minute through Aitor Etxebarria, who finished off a flowing move with a first-time strike from inside the penalty area. The home crowd sensed a turnaround, but Aretxabaleta responded with composure and regained the lead in the 71st minute.

Tactical Story

Lagun Onak’s full-backs pushed high in search of an equalizer, but that left space behind for Aretxabaleta to exploit. The winning goal came from exactly that scenario: a turnover in midfield, a direct pass into the channel, and a calm finish from Zubizarreta.

Standout Players

Jokin Larrañaga was the game’s most influential attacker, scoring the opener and stretching the defence all afternoon. Mikel Zubizarreta showed great composure for the winner. For Lagun Onak, Aitor Etxebarria was the standout, scoring and linking play intelligently.

Season Impact

UD Aretxabaleta climb the Tercera División RFEF standings with a morale-boosting derby win. CD Lagun Onak remain within touching distance of the teams above them but will rue missed chances in a match they largely controlled. The rivalry remains alive, and the return fixture will carry even more weight later in the season.
