CD Cristo Atletico claimed a valuable 1-0 away victory over CD La Virgen Del Camino in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on Saturday. A single second-half goal was enough to separate the sides in a tense, tactical encounter that highlighted Cristo Atletico’s defensive solidity and La Virgen’s attacking frustrations.

Match Overview

The first half was a cagey affair, with both teams prioritizing defensive shape. La Virgen Del Camino saw more of the ball but struggled to break down a well-organized Cristo Atletico back line. The decisive moment arrived in the 67th minute when Javier Moreno rose highest to meet a corner and glanced a header into the far corner. La Virgen pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages, but Cristo Atletico’s goalkeeper Carlos Ruiz produced two outstanding saves to secure all three points.

Key Moments

• 28' – La Virgen’s Alvaro Gomez tests Ruiz with a low drive.
• 45+1' – Cristo Atletico’s Diego Fernandez heads just wide from a free-kick.
• 67' – Javier Moreno scores the winning goal with a header from a corner.
• 82' – Ruiz denies Gomez with a superb one-handed save.
• 90+4' – La Virgen’s last-ditch effort is cleared off the line.

Tactical Story

Cristo Atletico set up in a compact 4-4-2, content to absorb pressure and hit on the break. Their midfield duo screened the defence effectively, limiting La Virgen to shots from distance. La Virgen, playing a 4-2-3-1, lacked penetration in the final third and became increasingly predictable as the game wore on. The introduction of fresh legs late on almost paid off, but Cristo Atletico’s resilience held firm.

Standout Performers

Javier Moreno was the hero for Cristo Atletico, not only for his goal but for his all-round defensive work at set pieces. Goalkeeper Carlos Ruiz was equally important, making a string of saves to keep a clean sheet. For La Virgen, Alvaro Gomez was the brightest spark, but he lacked support in the attacking third and was often crowded out by the visiting defence.

What It Means for the Table

The win propels CD Cristo Atletico into the playoff positions, boosting their promotion hopes. For CD La Virgen Del Camino, the defeat is a setback in their own push for a top-five finish, leaving them to rue a lack of cutting edge in a game they largely controlled.
