CD Huarte and Aoiz played out a tense 0-0 draw in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on Saturday, a result that leaves both Navarran sides still searching for a first win in the early weeks of the campaign. The derby, played in front of a vocal home support, was a cagey, tactical affair in which defences dominated and clear-cut chances were at a premium.

Huarte, playing at home, enjoyed the better of the territorial play but found Aoiz’s back line resilient and well organised. The visitors, meanwhile, looked dangerous on the counter and came closest to breaking the deadlock in the second half. In the end, a share of the points was a fair reflection of a match that never quite caught fire in the final third.

Match Overview

The hosts started with intent, pressing high and forcing Aoiz into a series of early clearances. Huarte’s midfield trio worked tirelessly to win the ball back, but the final pass repeatedly eluded them. Aoiz gradually grew into the contest, sitting deeper and looking to spring quick breaks through their wide players. The first half ended goalless, with neither goalkeeper seriously tested.

After the interval, the game opened up slightly. Huarte pushed more bodies forward, and Aoiz responded by dropping into a compact 4-4-2 block. The best chance of the match fell to the visitors around the hour mark, when a curling effort from the edge of the box clipped the outside of the post. Huarte’s goalkeeper then produced a smart double save to deny Aoiz a late winner.

Key Moments

• 18th minute: Huarte’s first meaningful shot on target, a low drive from 20 yards, is comfortably held by the Aoiz goalkeeper.
• 43rd minute: Aoiz break quickly down the right, but the cross is headed over from six yards.
• 61st minute: Aoiz strike the post with a fine curling effort from just outside the area.
• 84th minute: Huarte’s goalkeeper makes a crucial double save to keep the score level.
• 90+3 minutes: Huarte win a late corner, but the delivery is cleared and the referee blows for full time.

Tactical Story

Huarte set up in a 4-2-3-1 and tried to dominate possession through the middle, but Aoiz’s midfield screen proved difficult to bypass. The visitors defended with discipline, limiting space between the lines and forcing Huarte into wide areas where crosses were well dealt with. Aoiz’s own attacking plan was built on rapid transitions, and they nearly stole all three points with that approach.

The draw highlights a familiar theme for both clubs: defensive solidity has been present, but a cutting edge in front of goal is still missing. For Huarte, the challenge will be turning territorial dominance into goals. For Aoiz, the counter-attacking blueprint looks effective, but they will need to be more ruthless when chances arise.

Standout Players

Huarte’s goalkeeper was the busiest of the two shot-stoppers and produced the defining moment of the match with his late double save. In midfield, the captain led by example, winning tackles and recycling possession. For Aoiz, the centre-back pairing was outstanding, winning almost every aerial duel and reading the game well. Their right-winger was the most threatening outlet on the break.

Table and Season Impact

Both sides add a point to their respective tallies in the Tercera División RFEF standings. While a draw away from home is often considered a good result, Aoiz will feel they did enough to win it. Huarte, meanwhile, will take encouragement from a clean sheet but know that home draws must be converted into victories if they are to climb the table. The head-to-head record between these two Navarran rivals remains finely balanced, and the reverse fixture later in the season already looks like a key date for both clubs.

The result leaves both teams in mid-table, with plenty of matches remaining to build momentum. For now, the derby ends without a winner, but the intensity and commitment on display suggest that the return leg will be just as fiercely contested.
